Im working on this kind of funky soca inspired track and felt something was missing. till i added a simple repetitive guitar riff sampled loop. one or two strings played, no chords i think. it was a real adrenaline shot for the track!

my question for you that have tested all these new guitar vsts and current sample-packs.
should i go for a vst instrument or sample packs?

sample packs should have already great played sequences, transpose the loop and voila.
feel free to recommend any great packs you heard if you know any.

do vst instruments (kontakt etc) come with finger picked riffs already included? if not Im afraid making realistic grooves with a vst could get a bit complicated?

im after something like this, not really the style im working with but its similar (funky, no rock or metal soundings stuff)

Try Pettinhouse Funky Guitars for Kontakt. Not only does it sound pretty good and comes with its own pedal FX, but I think it has a built-in pattern sequencer and loops (it's been a while since I've loaded it).

Yes, guitar is pretty much impossible to emulate with current sampling/programing technology. Nothing comes even remotely close.

If you can't find a guitarist to play the part for you, then try some sample packs...Forget about vstis.

yeah, i know guys :) its best with a real guitar/guitarist. i wil be picking up a electric one soon. this is just to make a fast demo and then have the complete idea when showing it for somebody, a guitarist for instance.
thanks for all the input, and thanks midi-man for the offer.

im going to test the classic names for kontakt etc out there tonight and see,

maybe ive found a way of getting both the groove but locked quality of samples more flexible by extracting the midi and applying it to a vst. ill see how far i can take it... ;) if it doesnt work ill be using loops

Your welcome. Playing like Nile rogers is another thing. Don't expect to get that sound when you first pick up that electric guitar. It takes many years to get your fingers to do what you want them to.

Here is something you might like. The more reverberated guitar is me. The other is jcoke.
