Get a clean supersaws without aliasing (so no Virus, Nexus, Sylenth or any of the older digital/Vsts synths). Most of the new vsts will kill your CPU, but they can get clean sounds (with all the oversampling and quility filters modeled from analog synths).
Stack at least 3 synth layers for your lead or chord motive and process them separately - (mid, high and low parts)
Compress it heavily.
If you processed them with the right amount of eq, reverb, saturation, exciters and so on, you will get the sound you want. Just be careful when you compress the highs for harsh frequencies that have to be cleaned, if you want commercial loudness.
If you are not gonna smash your track with limiters, you don't really need the best/cleanest mix, but you need to turn up the volume knob to compare with the typical overproduced edm track with no dynamics.
