thanks for your answer! yeah, the trackpad has become almost my second nature (but a lot of room to improve here) and also using push 1 but stretching out to get the 2 (curios if that can boost up the workflow). :)

being creative and being able to produce nice riffs with the bare minimum is probably the best skill a producer can have, anything else comes later.
i've known so many guys who bought all the best and expensive gear just to finally realize they were mediocre musicians, probably good remixers but lacking the creative needed to make good songs from scratch.

and the best gear means nothing anyway because to really squeeze a machine you need months of study and dedication, the more gear you buy and the more you're making your life harder.

that's why i keep recommending starting with a good DAW and a good master keyboard, once you're done with this combo it's easy to move to the next level.

    What is that? Looks interesting.

I never used a trackball enough to really get comfortable with it. I use a mouse primarily. I guess I'm blessed in the fact that I've never developed any carpal tunnel or related injuries.
I'm really interested in getting a touchscreen to try, but want the touch interface below my main monitor. I'd likely use it primarily for console view, and plugin parameter edits.

Yamaha rm1x is a great jamming machine! I'm still thinking of acquiring one for computorless performance.

Unfortunately I'm missing one of these: Can I find one on Amazon?

If you can spring the extra cash, go for the RS7000, but the RM1x is still good enough for live perfomance. All the stuff I do is recorded as I perform it, without the RM1x it would not be possible.
