Guys, I've been searching alot and I cant seem to find what kind of plugins are used in modern trance music.
I will give an example ->

What about this track? Does any of you recognize what plugins are used for the drums, bass and synths?
Thank you so much. This will help me alot.
    Thanks.

Honestly... Sylenth is still used like crazy. Serum has been all the rave. Massive is another staple.... you know, they all can pretty much do the same thing. It's more of a choice in preset/soundbank thing if you ask me... that's where the secrets really are.

The secret to pro sounding trance is in the reverbs

@xbitz that vengeance synth looks hell of legit, love me some good old generic trance sounds, totally serious. Is it dongled or do any weird call home stuff with any of the refx stuff? If I can put together the funds while it's still on sale I definitely want to buy it, since I know I would use the absolute fuck out of it.

@SineWave you got it all wrong dude, it might have been a loooong minute but from what I remember good rolls are what made Trance music so special =P

A good Deep House music show, now that's where the weed smoke was so thick I couldn't even see the DJ or smell my cigarette for that matter.

    Maybe times have changed though?

Bass : any synth will do, even a Juno 106
    Strings : same as above
Lead : Juno + any vibrato FX (UhBik for instance)

or just use Omnisphere with the EDM and Moog Tribute addons, all those sounds are there in large numbers and in many variations, i remember a Lead sound pretty made identical to the song in the video.

Sylenth, Spire, Dune2, SynthMaster, etc, anyone will do and much more, i mean the sounds in the video are pretty normal stuff, the only interesting thing is the vibrato and pitch-down in the Lead but it can be done in many ways.

FX : i see lots of long reverbs, Valhalla will do, or the new Pro-R or any other Shimmer Reverb.

    Kick & His : TR 909
Snare : any 80s/90s rock drum kit

    concept and ideas :
i truly hate this kind of EDM with a passion but unfortunately it's selling like hot cakes.
the producer probably started with the Lead sound and that hideous riff, added some barebone drums, then a bass, and a riser with the snare.
so far so good, then EQ everything, add compression here and there, and finally a shitload of Reverb and some delay.
final result is the typical EDM sound from Armada and other dutch labels.

said that, technically there's nothing hard in producing this kind of tunes, the hard part is coming up with the most hideous "riff" made of no more than 3-4 notes in a 5 minutes loop, if you can stand that shit you're in business, thanks god i'm too old to set foot in places where they play this stuff too loud.

for anything else, Leads are everything in this niche sub-genre, good Lead + good drums = $$$
bass and strings are just there to give body to the whole crap, the Reverbs definitely make it pop but it would sound good even without pushing things so far.

the "secret" is still the Lead, not the reverbs, but they help a lot in keeping things minimal and create atmosphere.
the real secret is, nobody would give a second look to this song if it wasn't coming out from Armada/Van Buuren/Benno De Goeji.
booze is probably also a prerequisite to enjoy modern EDM in general.

    i've spoken ! :)

    http://vengeance-sound.com/plugins.php?sub=Vengeance Producer Suite Avenger&issue=TRY DEMO

    does Avenger require a dongle?
[IMG] no Avenger does not require a dongle. VPS Avenger uses a keyfile based licensing system which is very convenient for the user. After purchase you get a serial number which has to be activated at https://register.vps-avenger.com/ there you can download your keyfile and the content for VPS Avenger

    --

so yep only have to import the keyfile once into it and done

Sadly but look what they used for making one of the greatest song ever :)

Honestly, if you listen for this:

    or this:

Ok, it's not trance, but this is a root of todays trance... but just listen, songs are old but still sounds fresh and modern, and you will not regret if you play this songs in club today, people will dance...

And why is that? Simple: everything is about atmosphere, mood, idea and inspiration... now just imagine what Ralf Moier Bode uses these days for redemption (Atari midi controller with some hardware and some samples) or Dance To Trance...

    And now listen this:

It's old shoe, since 1989, but just listen atmosphere and mood, that bass line with juno saw... fantastic! Just wish to never stop...

Maybe I'm sound like off-topic, but I just want to explain main point here... it's not about some software or whatever... You can go to most expensive studio today and you will do nothing inthere! Even if you have almighty limiters, compressions, reverbs or new Roland synth etc...

    --------------
Now, back to topic, modern trance: Armin Van Buuren and others... Vanguard, Synthmaster KV331, Sylenth, Nexus, Massive, Logics included synths, Virus TI hardware... just search for AVB interview on youtube and you will see what he say :) It's simple.

    Dance 2 Trance and RMB
    Woah, thread got serious!

Honestly, yes, I agree on everything the guy above me said. Mood, atmosphere, etc.
BUT... this is true for older styles of trance. Todays "trance" is literally everything but trance. It has a lot more breaks and buildups, it's less progressive (when progressive meant something), there's lot of white noise and effects, especially those breakdown moments when there's nothing but pads and melodies (this was called uplifting I believe, but even now I think it's not as popular as before).
I mean I'm listening to the track you linked, and well, from 2:00 to 4:00 there's a huge calm moment, when only vocals and other instruments are playing. That's too much I think.
-- I just realized this has nothing to do with the topic and I got distracted as soon as I read the two names above ^^

I say Vanguard, Sylenth, Nexus, we all know them. And again I quote nikon above saying the Virus was and still is famous

    Synths:

Omnisphere, Nexus, Sylenth1, Spire, Serum, Massive, Zebra, Bazille, KICK2, Virus variations, JP8xxx, ES2, KOntakt5, Reaktor, etc

    FX:
    Valhalla, NI Stuff, Waves, etc

i doesnt matter, what other people use, it only counts, how they use it to get what they want ...

btw the stuff armada and other do release isnt trance anymore, its somewhere between house and pop
