I don't remember it ever being this slow in the 7 years I've been participating.....

(not including my commodore 64 days, of course ;) )

Yes it seems pretty dead right now! :(
But there are also no significant new product releases from developers.....
Since ASSiGN resigned [died : R.I.P] there is a spooky stagnation! :wow:

Well, let's enjoy the time with music making! :guitarhero:

But there are a lot of significant updates (not to mention so many great new or updated libraries)...

I've been around this stuff for a long, long time. I don't recall there ever being a stretch where there was really no group at all around that you could rely on for regular releases. So yeah, I'd say this is pretty dead.

Hopefully some new group will show up to fill in the gap, but to be honest I'm not even so sure anymore that will come to pass. The less and less privacy you have on the web, the greater the difficulty of attempting to distribute warez without getting in a lot of trouble. Unfortunately, corporations (and their government lackeys) have pretty much now been allowed to take full control of all aspects of the internet, making this a far more dangerous proposition for those that download stuff, and for those that crack and distribute it. Guys like Assign weren't making any money off this stuff, as far as I'm aware of. Why should they place themselves in a situation that gets more and more risky by the day?

I just don't know if there will be a new group that's willing to take that risk on a regular basis in this environment. So what you get instead are individual crackers with a modest release here and there; not enough to attract a lot of trouble for themselves from the law. Most of what's left now are some crappy small sample releases, and the only reason you're seeing those is that the uploaders on a site like this are attempting to keep making their money, which of course is behind what's caused some of the most glaring recent problems on the scene anyway --- once people start making money off this crap it always attracts more attention. While I appreciate some of those smaller sample releases, the fact is if most of them never saw the light of day, most of us would never really miss them.

So yeah, things are dead, and we got a problem. It might be a long, long time before it changes much.

I agree to many points of you BUT this statement doesn't show the full view. Just remember some days ago... MaxPayne3 was 0-day cracked and available on all major filehosts! In this case I'd say, it's no big deal being anonymous in a cracking group.

However,... protections like iLok or eLicenser are very, very strong. Just AiR (H2O) were able to crack it some years ago. Many crackers resigned trying open up the secret. And hey, if you are THAT talented, ask yourself why you should work hardly on cracking this without getting anything but fame, instead of working in as software developer on the bright side (of life :))!?

Face it,... most audio software is cheap, or at least affordable. Assign cracked so many software, I bet you can't use all of that stuff, because it's simply too much. Go, pick your favs and just make music. You don't need the latest version or the very brand new synth. As written above, Dune, Sylenth, Massive, Omnisphere are great (and cracked) pieces of software - it's enough to produce #1 hits.

So yeah, the audio scene is dead - at the moment. Some day someone will come around and fill the gap for sure. In the meanwhile, make music with what you have. That easy, bro. :)

You don't need new tools or toys to make good music. Somewhere along the way it has to be about the music and not the gear. Just sayin'.... Now that I think about, I know I have some things that I haven't even scratched the surface of and will probably not ever get around to using if there are constantly newer things to try. I am very grateful for the this site. I am a musician more than a computer tech, so I don't know how contribute in the certain ways that some of these nice people do. But my experience is that even back in the days when I was in the studio and 4 or 8 tracks on tape was all there was, sometimes the machinery gets in the way of just getting on with it.

Audio Software cheap? *no* Mostly not i would say.
Considering the fact that every software brought into the market is just a cloned copy, it is way too expensive!!

Though i agree with you on the other points. *yes*
One can make very good music with just the essential things - but using the right tools you will learn more and more on how - and when - to use them.....if you ever use them really!

Fact is that not only the Audio scene is stagnating.....

It DOES get in the way of getting on with it no doubt....

I found myself hoarding tons of stuff I simply did not need...But, indeed, it is time to let the creative juices flow!

Will probably never recover.. the Golden age.. has come.. and gone.

Some of knew this day would come, and have wisely tucked away pretty much everything we will ever need.

Time to use it all now.

I'll be surprised if Live 9 is ever released  and even more surprised, if its cracked.

    Warez - RIP.

I can't speak for others, but not having new releases every day/week has been a
blessing!!!....I've found and established my favorites, and finished more
tracks this last 3 months than I did last fucking year!!!.

As for 'Is the scene dead????'.....Yes.

    It's not dead, it's sleeping.

But to be honest it's just a matter of waiting till some people with the skills get organised and funded. When they do, they can build their way up to being as big as assign, air h2o and all the greats.

Just 1 £1000 program is gonna cost atleast £1000 to crack, as they need to see what parts of it function to provide all the features.

So let the scene rest a bit, wile they get organiesed, then scene will wake up again when they do.
