Powerful and promising synth. A bit strange to release a new synth on Black Friday but still... nice tool to have

Sorry I was completely underwhelmed by this demo:
1 All due respect to Rob !
    2. I saw the entire thing 95% of what he demoed was a couple of PAD sounds, some metallic sounds with bells and a few morphing option here and there.
    3. There is nothing wrong with that...But Most of the Synth out today can do the same, Avenger coming in a few days will basically mope the floor feature and morphing wise with Predator 2.

I kept asking my self other then Rob's name and the good reputation of the first predator which I paid for, there wasn't much that got me exited...the Ui look dull and blend, Yes I know the sound engine is what counts but we all stair at these devices for long periods of time.

What I saw in the video was an old school developer with an old school ear/eye... even though there are lots of developers with the same old school ear...like say Synapse/u-he ...but some how they still manages to make them feel, look, sound fresh. I saw none of that in this demo by Rob.

Instead you'll be better off to get Avenger....save that $150 of Predator 2 and add a few more dollars to it and get a future device that can sound Old School/Vintage and do cutting edge Morphing and can do more with user imported sounds then Predator 2 can do with more filter types and models ...etc..... Of course all this is my own opinion. Like I said Respect to Rob but I was expecting more in the User Interface and sounds. What I saw was cool, could be useful...but VSTi tech is not pointing to Rob Papen Predator 2 he needs new blood, new spirit = new eye/ears.

I thought it also looked a bit bland and plain at first but i think where this synth will excell is in its layout and simplicity.

The synth sections are layed out in an order that will help beginners to program because it leads you into the next required part to edit i.e osc - filter - env - amp - fx (if that makes any sense) but it will also mean that pros can access everything fast and program a patch in no time. The mod matrix looks good aswell.

The only thing i would like to change is the colour scheme but i guess someone can probably make a better looking skin.

I understand your points. but do you think that a new synth programmer would start with Predator 2? there are synth out there that are cheaper then 150 that they could practice on...and let be honest and speak my mind, the second a new user types Synth on there search, Serum, spire and many other synth would pop up instead of predator 1 or 2.

As you mentioned the Ui seems simple but the Color theme doesn't help your eyes at all (like you mentioned), it actually will lead to eye fatigue looking at this thing. Also keep in mind that Many of the popular ans less popular synth out there are also laid out properly, Predator 2 doesn't do it any better or any worst then them.

I will admit that You might be looking at this in a more practical way then I am. I don't have an issue with programming a synth my self, so I look for technical prowess, cutting edge and modern feature set in VSTi. I feel that even Rob him self in his own demo didn't show anything too earth shattering...it's been possible to make bell sounds from most of his synth, if you look back at any of his VSTi demos...he's always showcasing Metallic/bell sounds and Pads.

Regardless, I'm glad that he's still in the game....if I find my self in the mood for his type of flavor I know where to go :)

Man... As soon as I looked at it my eyes unfocused. Surely in this day and age enough people have set a better example of how to design a synth UI than just a wall of evenly spaced and mostly equal sized knobs.

Not to say it's not a good synth. To be honest I don't know much about the Rob Papen line. But there's nothing there to draw the eye to a focal point and then direct on toward second-and-tertiary parameters. Very little to distinguish one parameter from another either, so IMO it would be kind of a pain in the ass to use unless and until you know the layout by heart.

Disclaimer: I say this as an avid fan of both Harmor and Bazille. I know that sometimes, you just gotta live with a wall of knobs. But it's definitely an obstacle to getting people interested in it.

Yeah you are probably right, 150 is way too much for a new starter and i have also just seen that the vengeance Avenger synth is going to be 199 which isnt too far off. That thing looks amazing!!!!!! is there any news on a release date?

I must say, I did use the first predator a lot. It came out about the time I was getting serious about my production. It did have some really good dirty distorted sound right out of the box.
But it became dated quickly and couldnt keep up with the newer synths that were coming out to feed the trend towards dubstep production.
Now that dubstep isnt so hugely popular as it was and current trendy EDM has drifted more towards trap and its newer subgenres like future bass and liquid trap it might be a viable contender again. We already know that it will come with 1000 presets and add ons for sale made by trendy producers geared towards current EDM production. So it might be decent again, who knows.

I totally agree about the gui. Faux LCD red on black? What? Are we in a pre WW2 submarine? Light green and purple colors are easier for me to read in low light settings.

Something else Ive noticed. Developers usually give the worst demos of their own products. I guess their brains are still wrapped around it too tightly. They should let an outsider not involved in making it do the demo/review.

Rob Papen Predator is totally overrated.
I dare to say it is obsolete, compared to lots of other virtual synths.

Kind of meh. I'm sure it's cool enough and all. But there are other synths that pique my interest.
