Any Star Trek fans here? (esp. TNG, DS9 and Voyager)

My favourite Star Trek is Voyager, actually, then The New Generation close second, and then I do like DS9, too, but it is a bit "soapy" for my taste. "Enterprise" is not so bad but I feel it's the worst of them all and I find the hillbilly captain Archer and his redneck commander "Trip" often rather irritating. T'pol, Dr. Phlox, and Hoshi characters made the "Enterprise" bearable and interesting for me. I don't find the original Star Trek from the 60s that good, actually. Sorry. Maybe almost as good as "Enterprise", but I really am a big fan of Voyager, TNG, and DS9. Best TV series I've ever seen.

p.s. maybe I should rewatch the original Star Trek for the first time since I was a kid... I watched Voyager and TNG series about 4 times and DS9 and Enterprise 2 times. :)

Cool! I grew watching TNG on a local TV Channel. Then I watched TOS. My sister is even more trekkie than me (full package, DS9 etc).

I can't decide between DS9 and Voyager to watch next.

PS. BTW, I think one of the closest shows (still far) is Babylon 5. Anyone?

I preferred DS9 to Voyager but of course both were great.

+1 from me. I loved the overriding story arc in Babylon 5.

Londo was a bit irritating some of the time but I got used to him :) I loved G'Kar though. In reallife he was very good with human babies :)

I always wondered if the writers were being a bit cheeky coming up with the name for the Narn race of aliens who had heads that looked a lot like a Naan bread

I would have to say Star Trek Enterprise (2001-2005) is severely underrated, for me the best one.

    Thanks that's really cool.

For me the original ST will always be #1 just because of how it created a world where humans wanted to be better and even-though it was a little jingoistic and yellow it was still a huge step ahead of the curve for its time.

DS9 and TNG are tied for second place. I followed the other ones as well, but it got a little soap opera for me even-though I enjoyed it the writing was less polished and the characters were more two dimensional.

++++++ on Babylon 5, that was a great story, too bad it was rushed at the end, it really had everything as far as content and a high drama arc and an excellent story line. The last season was no so well written but it was rushed and they just wanted to wrap things up.

I wish some networks would pick up Asimov's Foundation and actually do a honest and truthful 5 year series based on it, while having good writers that could resist the temptation to spice it up with shit story lines that would do nothing but detract from what is actually a wonderful space opera by adding crap and dropping substance.

My thoughts exactly! Proper "Robots" series wouldn't be bad, either, but "Foundation" universe is even more interesting. Both of them could be really great series! If they only made it with less soap and more real substance, yep!

Long time fan of the Trek. After TNG it went downhill for me. Voyager was kinda okay but just too much drama. Janeway just could not live up to Jean Luc. I still like the movies though. I'm really liking the present franchise of the Trek, cgi has come a long way hey?

Yes, the overall plot arc is awesome. And in the end, specially G'Kar, these two alien ambassadors become much more interesting characters. Wow.

Geek fact: the 3D of this show were made using Commodore Amiga computers. I feel old... wait, I really am old! :suicide: lol

Agreed. Perhaps the "problem" is that the Foundation saga is less prone to have spectacular CGI action sequences. With the robots is way easier.

I really enjoy these last Star Trek movies, as long as you take them as the Hollywood blockbusters they are. Actually, the last one perhaps its's the closest to the original Ster trek spirit. Therefore is the less successful

Even geekier fact: Only the pilot was rendered on Amigas. Then they used 12 Pentium PCs and 5 DEC Alpha Workstations, the software was Lightwave3D, which still exists ( https://www.lightwave3d.com/ )

I'm a fan of well made Sci-Fi in general.
Voyager had not much to offer the first seasons, but when Sevenofnine came on board the pace got faster. Way more interesting plots. But until today I just hate this arrogant, egocentric smartypants Captain Janeway...
When TNG came out I immediatly got hooked. I still have to smile about the beardless Number One, which reminded so much on Captian Kirk. When watching episodes now, however, I feel that the series is dated.
That's different to DS9, where the first three seasons were (as already mentioned) too soapy. But then it was like a firework of awesome ideas, starting with (unfortunately I only know the German translations, so forgive me if I re-translate them wrong) the founders, and their Dominion-Empire, the Jem'Hadar with their Ketracel White, etc. It was like a new series. And even today I still love to see it, it aged well.

I never got used to Stargate SG-1, although I watch a few episodes now and then to fill the hole of missing good Sci-Fi on TV. But I watched Stargate Atlantis from the beginning, and it was good. Not groundbreaking, but entertaining.

I'm still waiting Fincher to get off his ass and do Rendezvous with Rama.
At this point I'll take an HBO mini-series.

Or just fund me a few million and I'll do it myself. You guys can help score it.
Audioz @nnotaions in the credits and all.

    Agreed.
To be honest, Sci-Fi is one of the few genres where I can immerse myself in even the worst productions.

Off the ST topic but still science fiction and surprisingly good: Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency

    Yes.

I think Ryan Gosling is in it too.
With Villeneuve directing he could cast Mickey Mouse and it would still turn out pretty awesome.

Sci-fi and music of the highest caliber (both book and film). Vangelis, well, astounding. Goosebumps with "Rachel's Song"...
