Yep, Neve's are expensive. never used a neve console, never had the opportunity so i'm more in the SSL camp. but i have used external neve pre amps and some of the best pre-amps i have heard have been neve.

never found a good emulation though, waves have a few but they're no where near.

Think of it as looking at a nice automobile. You don't need it to appreciate it. Does a high quality console make a better tool that you can hear? Yes. Is it necessary? Probably not.

Maybe thats where we are different, I am fine with any automobile that leads me to where I want. Do I want a NEVE Console for free? Yes. Will I buy if I had the money? No. Cause there are lots of consoles/converters to choose from. When a product have a "neve" name it does not mean it sounds good. There are lots of pros who did not like the sound of Neve or SSl or Api.

The SSL XL-Desk costs an additional 20k for cabling and setting up the patch bay, this full sized Neve would probably total closer to 300k.

and don't forget that you need a separate machine room for the power supplies which would roughly be the size of the average home studio. and you need to know a "Neve guy" for maintenance and if hes not in your city you'll have to fly him out.

If you learned on a Neve and all your career worked on consoles, this might be worth it, but if you started with a USB mic and ASIO4ALL like I did, no way.
