I'll reproduce my own post here,

I know 96dB/O sounds impressive, but really, it isn't. Since Octave=doubling in frequency, a 96dB/O Lopass @4K will only go to -96dB at (2x4K=) approx 8K.

Fabfilter Pro Q 2 has a transition band of a few K @4K in Linear Phase mode.

Izotope Ozone 5 EQ has a transition band of 100hz in LP mode. This is equivalent of hundreds of dBs.

ProQ2 was released in 2014, EQ5 was released in 2013.

    ProQ2 LP

    EQ5 LP

NB: In ProQ2, the filter dB scale is on the left, the audio dB scale is on the right. In EQ5, on the left is the audio dB scale, on the right is the filter dB scale

That's great. I'm just letting people know that Melda plugins are waaay out there as far as versatility is concerned. Many mastering houses are using them as well.

Users : In the end, just use what sounds good.

Its a good EQ but never quite convinced me.Always went back to Air EQ, which to me is one league above the rest of EQs.Just my humble opinion.Use whatever works for you.

If you want to modulate it, then I'd recommend trying Bitwig studio. It has a universal modulation system that allows you to assign LFOs and envelopes to any VST. It's great fun for creative stuff like this.

@neo_lover, I guess you will like Melda's MAutoDynamicEq.
It has 4 modulators (!) that can act as LFO, level follower, midi/audio triggered ADSR ENV or even detect audio pitch, and I wouldn't say the EQs sounds bad at all
It also supports those weird curve shapes you're after.
I know, it's not directly comparable with Q2 so you would have to learn and approach it differently, but I bet that 99% of what you want in the end could be done with this one.
(Or with a combination of Ableton devices or MUX as mentioned already, if you have the time and patience to patch ;-)

Not that well in my experience. Maybe its crack related or something though, but in PT12 and F12, doing basic automations yeap, no prob, doing multiple complex automation patterns on a same instance killed my processing power every single time. So I'd say the plugin respond well until a certain point (which is not that far)

ok that's cool, but that's only visually
I totally love air eq too, not that the earth and air bands ever get any use.

I know for sure that the vocal balance preset in aireq, (mind you, it only sets the frequencies and the Q's with good names/labels)
between a TBproaudio loudness matcher really changed my mixing game.

Before that, I really didn't knew a eq could be that powerfull. To be honest, before that expierience I was very conservative about boosting frequencies

Yeah this "never boost EQ always cut" rule. I got it too from old professors in some sound engineer course. But at some times you realise it is wrong. Kinda right for beginners but... You know how EQ boosts can completely change a mix like no other techniques. It is so good when you get past those academic rules, you still keep em in mind at some point but dayum, changed my game too.

Couldn`t have said it better.Air has no real competition in the digital domain, i can see only Acustica one notch better as AIR or going the boutique hardware route.

Damn sir Von Steyr you're tickling my curiosity now. In the digital surgEQ domain I'm kind of a FF fanboy, only know Air EQ by name, will give it a shot like right now.

I used to think the abbey rd series EQs were magic too, until I read that it's just a very wide Q. You can do the same with any goot PEQ. It's just marketing. Go read the other opinions on https://www.google.com/search?q=airEQ++site:audiosex.pro . cba finding the exact post where Q was mentioned.

Sometimes, you need surgical precision for certain sound editing. Could mean the difference between a few notes.
