I've been playing with the trial version. So far...I'm not all that impressed. the track assistant makes nearly all the percussion sound awful. I've found some value with the masking function, but for the most part I can do as good or better with a spectrum analyzer and Ozone. Any other thoughts/opinions on this plugin?

I would like to know also. Plus for some reason its a CPU hog at least for me, so haven't have much time with it as I just go back to other plug ins that don't drain so much

I tried it out on a mastering session last week.........it gave me a couple of good starting points, and initially I thought it sounded pretty good, until I A/B'd it against Equilibrium/The Glue/Satin/Pro-L (in various configs) and it didn't even come close........hard digital sounding plug by comparison, it may have its uses, and its really easy to use, but not for moi.
The track assistant is a bit hit and miss depending on what snippet of audio its listening to...
I didn't check out the spectral section as I was in clean mode for the full mix.
Didn't notice any high CPU useage.

Yeah every single Izotope products are CPU eaters.
So far it' same as you guys, not that impressed, and same as Ozone for Mastering, I'd rather prefer dedicated/fully optimised plugin chain for my mixing. But again, same as Ozone, it might be really, really good for anyone looking for fast and decently done jobs.

I kindly disagree, on a drum buss it seems to do pretty well. on individual tracks I was not impressed either.

when I record rap vocals I only use boosting eq on the group busses before or after the last limiter on that buss
and I must say from 6000hz and above the track assistant and the eq learn function and me tent to place the nodes at the same place.

kind of scary actually, I was under the impression that was actually creative expression from the producing engineer.:suicide:
I highly doubt that neutron is going to stay this buggy. it just has been released and there are om at least 10 or more obvious bugs

I would go as far as to say from 1500hz and up for me. Not always, but often enough. but I tested a bunch of times to see where I would make cuts and then I'd run Track Assistant. Probably 8 times out of ten Neutron made basically the same cuts. Especially with harshness on vocals. Tbh it saves me a shitload of critical listening.

On the other hand, I don't necessarily trust it on boosts. I especially am not a fan of the warm setting on vocals. Rather go with the clear setting and then add my lower midrange meat by hand

    Also...
I'm sure you're right. But, hell, I hope they fix it up soon. It consumes a shitload of CPU for me. I would accept it as normal but I figure it can't be because my i7 can just barely handle having it on a bunch of tracks. Nobody with a middle-of-the-line processor would be able to use it at all if it was supposed to run this way.

Neutron is a great plugin. If you're using the track assistant to 100% do it for you, you're missing the point. It's an assistant. Not an engineer. The final decision still falls on you. It places nodes in the correct place 95% of the time and when it misses it's still close. There's a zero-latency mode for all the people that need new pc's. I've found it to be a huge time-saver.

Wasn't talking about instability and bugs, but CPU consumption only. It will, stay this way... Izotopes products are well optimised but still not cpu friendly at all because of their nature, except for all those new little plugs of course like DDLY etc

True that. I'll probably still keep it, as a time saver sometimes.
