Yeah, I think slate is good...but underwhelming. I still get better results with Waves and Fabfilter plugins. I think the whole analog modeling concept is overrated. It's more of an interesting novelty for producers than it is for average listening public. As an experiment I posted two versions of a track one was produced and mastered with all of the vintage modelling plugins from slate and nomad. The other was done with stock ableton and fabfilter plugins. I posted both on soundcloud and told everyone that version "A" was produced with vintage analog modeled software and gear and version "b" was done with straight digital tools. The majority of listeners (including producers, musicians and average listeners) all praised version "a" and said things like warmth, saturation, etc. and version B was too clean, sterile and digital sounding. What they didn't know is that version "a" was actually the "digital" version and "b" was the "analog modeled" version. People are funny. I've thought about doing that again and this time not telling what version is which and see how the results compare.

OMG...why. "Guitar" vst's...sound like...Guitar vst's. You could probably find a half-assed guitarist that would come over for free and still sound better than those things.

There are many vsts which aren't cracked...what about Motu Ethno Instrument 2? or East West Quantum Leap Gypsy? East West Quantum Leap Goliath?

 

There is a difference between Mac and Win. Some plugins which cracked for one doesn't for other.
And actually if we don't have that cracks it doesn't mean it not exist. Last Christmas shows us what DND is.

personally, I think that if teams keep cracked stuff internal, it's for a reason (testing reasons, scheduled releases, etc) and not to make everything crazy and do mischievous things to all LOL

For me that would be Metal Machinery SDX and Proggresive Foundry SDX (expansions for Superior Drummer). I don't really understand what happened there. All previous expansions were cracked vert quickly so when MM came out I thought it's matter of weeks at most. NOPE, two years passed, still no release. Same with progressive, it's almost year. Toontrack uses still the same protection so I have no clue why these two never got released, they are quite popular too.
