Slightly confused trying to install the latest R2R release (5.6.1). When I try to run the Kontakt 5 Setup PC.exe it says it is already installed on my system, but it is not. The version I currently have is 5.6.0, or R2R's 5.6.0.46 to be exact.

When I try and install this I get a message saying:

Native Instruments Kontakt 5 Setup Error

Installation is not possible since the full version of Kontakt 5 is found on this computer. The latest version of Kontakt 5 can load all Kontakt Player libraries. You can update your existing Kontakt 5 full installation by running the latest Kontakt 5 update installer.

WTF?!?! Does that mean this 5.6.1 is actually using the Kontakt Player installer rather than the full version installer?

Confused as to what's going on here and how I can update it?!?!

That basically happens because Kontakt must be fully uninstalled, and with that I don't mean just folders and files but also deleted from the registry.
So, to explain it complete, what you have to do is delete the Kontakt folders from these locations:

    C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Native Instruments
    C:\Program Files (x86\Native Instruments\
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Native Instruments
    C:\ProgramData\Native Instruments\
    C:\Users\PC\Documents\Native Instruments
    C:\Users\PC\AppData\Local\Native Instruments

If there's any you don't have it's alright too.
Then to clear the registry (look for Kontakt only too):

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.NKB
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.NKI
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.NKM
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.NKP
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.NKS
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\NI.Kontakt 5.nki
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\NI.Kontakt 5.nkm
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Native Instruments
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Native Instruments
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Native Instruments
    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Native Instruments

That should do it, it always worked for me.
Sorry if you're on Mac, don't know how it goes there.

You should Kontakt Native Instruments and ask for help. (See what I did there?)

But if i totally unintall it, don't i lose all my libraries and then need to re-add them all? Doesn't seem logical for an update install.

uninstall 5.6 and then install 5.6.1, because 5.6.1 isnt an update!

I don't know about the library thing honestly, but now that I rember I didn't have to re-add any of the couple ones I had added before, they were there already. And as they said above that is not an update but full installation so keep in mind that too.
