I just read this post: This new business model for musicians

After reading I thought about the past and what it was like for me, when I was really young. I made music. I sure wanted to present my music, which back in the days meant to do gigs. I remember once there was an evening with two acts, a 2-man-project called "Phase 4" and a 2-man-project called "Paranoia", the latter my project, although we used to call us a band at the time.

People paid 5 bucks to hear both acts, and we were supposed to be the pre-show, the others the main act. After 50 minutes, we were done (our closing act was really nice, my project partner played sax while in underwear to our very special rendition of the opening song of the german version of Sesame Street )

The other act started, but after a few minutes the people started to leave. As they passed us they told us that we were the better act and that it would be a shame we weren't the main act.

And I admit, I was so damn proud! I know I shouldn't, but this confirmation of our work meant so much more to me than the 200 or whatever bucks.

I remembered that, because nowadays it's all about the money. Success or reward is only found in money.

    I declare this sunday the
    Day Of Nostalgia
To honor this day, I will share with you a very old song. Very, very old. Created in 1987, digitally "remastered" in 1990. You will hear the famous Korg M1 piano, but also the Yamaha TX- and Roland JP-series. I can't remember the drum machine, but I think it was from Yamaha as well (if someone recognizes it, please tell). We used the studio of our boss, and I simply can't remember all of his instruments. But it were a lot, all of the usual suspects like DX7, D-50, JX-8P, etc.

It's from our very early days, long before our first gigs. And:

By listening to the song you agree to NOT make any jokes about me singing (btw. that was in the pre-autotune-era)! I also don't need mixing or mastering tips. Those songs are from a past that I won't revive (unless someone among you wants to do a remix or cover it - in which case you're welcome).

You may however comment about why the heck anybody ever listened to shit like that, or praise my musical genius, may dislike or like it.

Oh, and the saxophone that plays the melody is a real one, played by my project-partner. I know that young bloods nowadays might be very confused, but back at that time we really tried to learn the instruments we were using, while today you just grab a Kontakt library.

    Here you are:

    Don't hold back!
Or is it that the only comment you'd give would be a joke about me singing?:winker:
Take a ride to the past. It's free :bleh:

I love it. I get a Dave Gahan vibe from the vocals.
It's always a (sorrowful) pleasure to hear true sentiment expressed in any artform. Especially music.
    More please.

Has a kind of pre 80's Synth-pop sound. When the female vocals come in, it reminds me of Human League's Sound of the Crowd.
I would have listened and commented earlier but the link, is somewhat obscure. Maybe Edit the sentence above to "listen to it here".

The white-boy, manic 'funky' breakdown around 3:00 reminds me just how far drum programming & production has advanced over the years since. For the better i'd say :)
Track sounds better than the vox/melody. Loved the soft sax mixing/blending in the post-chorus breaks!
1:17 - "I must protect myself, it's five miinutes to twelve" - dude, that's just priceless.

Those were some nice post-punk new wave stylings you had there! Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed that.

I really enjoyed it. As I wasn born in '88 I can't really offer you proper critique apart from "I like it"...so you just got to live with that.

The thing is, because a lot of modern bands have re-claimed that early 80s sound (yes, I was there), this actually sounds more modern than it would have done 15 years ago... This could, with some production effort, be something like a Killers track or any of those indie-rock style bands. But probably without the bongos... ;)

We'll see. Maybe there'll be a "Day of Nostalgia 2017" xD

    Can't wait for it!

Haha, definitely. To be fair, it was the weakest part at that time as well, and my partner didn't want it to be in. It was me who insisted:knock:

@Beth Awesome! Thank you so much. That's some fine piece of work and compliment!

Ooh, that will be tough, but I try

    Probably? Definitely!

Thank you all for having taken the time to listen to it!
