    Hey all
Iv started hearing vocal slides in songs very often recently, especially in Moombahton, (in like every Dillon Francis song)
but the best example would be the drop of Steve Aoki and Afrojack ft miss palmer - No Beef

they pitching the vox, but its getting a certain sound almost making the vocal sample act like a synthesizer

Look forward to your suggestions :)

    hello, Wheelbag,

it would certainly help if one could hear some snippets as examples (not everyone has the mentionad source audio files at hand or in his, her, collection), in the absence of these one can only guess (if maybe correctly)... *yes*

have you tried to chop the intended vocal part (for the slide, that is) up, then put it (on one new track) into some sampler (at middle c or as you like) then use your controller's pitch wheel (or edit your midi stream)?

it will surely give the sound some colouration during, after, the slide, but it is quite possible that this is what you are after... *yes*

then, if ready with the above, after bouncing it, composite all the different parts (with crossfades, etc.) into your new, slided track, there is what you needed (at least i hope so)... *yes*

all the best, later, if i have other ideas, will look back here...

keep up the good work... :grooves:

    Hey Wheelbag,

Had a listen to the drop in Steve Aoki and Afrojack ft miss palmer - No Beef........

    My advice would be,

    1. Chop the vocal sample you would intend to use, then drop it into your sampler of choice. (E.g. Ableton Live Simpler or Reason NN-XT)
    2. Make sure you have the key of your vocal chop or the key of track your producing so you can line it up on the correct root note in your sampler, then spread the vocal across the samplers keyboard range.
    3. Most samplers will have a function called "Glide" (Glide is to pitch bend continuously between two notes until the desired note is reached) also known as portamento, turn this on and set your glide value (the higher the glide value the longer it will take for notes to slide up and down), this will give you that slide on your vocal sample making it sound almost like a synth.
    4. Most Afrojack riffs are played in high octaves so try C5 or C6 then drop down to a C3 and you should hear the vocal sample slide down the pitch.
    5. ENJOY THE MUSIC! :mates:

Extra: When the track drops in Steve Aoki and Afrojack ft miss palmer - No Beef you can hear the vocal chop slide being sent to a reverb with a long decay time :grooves:

Thanks so much for the replies.
Really great to hear other takes on how to create it, i always thought it had to be a vst, but in my experience vocoders just add and effect and then bend the effect rather than the original vocal, and even synth pitch vsts dont affect vocals to get that dramatic slide sound.. im gona try mess around in the FL sampler, iv never been big on samples so that whole world is new to me :)

Im gona give these a bash :) and will let you know if i get it to sound close :)
