Hey, keeping it simple and sweet can have many benefits. One of my favorite producers is Phonat and he just uses a laptop! I see some people with an insane amount of gear, but yet there's not much for good tracks coming out of their big studios. I can see how a studio and producing can become more like a collection/hobbyist thing. I love the look of some of these studios...they look like a space station!

Since I'm new here, thought I'd show you guys what I use...Nothing spectacular, & I had to sell some of my gear last year (the whole year was a nightmare, financially & health-wise, but things are much better now), but here goes anyway:

Here's my desk, I keep my little amp head stuck in the rack bay...
EVH LBX 15w (I painted the metal cage myself...doesn't sound any better, but I think it looks better...:))
    Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6
    M-Audio BX8 monitors
    Dell pc: Intel i7 4790 @ 3.60 GHz, 16 GB ram, 2 - internal 1tb hdd's, 3 - external hdd's (one is USB 2.0, the other 2 are USB 3.0)
    Radial RMP Pro
Carvin CTM100 mic pre (the mic is stuffed under the desk in it's case)
    Sennheiser HD280 Pro 'phones
    [IMG]

    EVH 4x12
Marshall 4x12 (I have 4 different speakers in this cab, & can get a pretty decent range of tones like this...Sounds crazy, but it works pretty well with close mics...Speakers are: Celestion Greenback, Celestion V30, Celestion G12-65 re-issue, Celestion G-12H re-issue)

    2016 Gibson SG Standard T
    [IMG]

    2014 Gibson Les Paul Studio
    [IMG]

Ibanez RG350DX (Duncan Custom Custom bridge p'up
    [IMG]

    Fender Strat (MIM) H-S-S
    [IMG]

    Squire Strat S-S-S
    [IMG]

    Carlo Robelli 4-string bass
    [IMG]

    Oscar Schmidt acoustic
    [IMG]

I also have a few pedals (Boss SD-1, Danelectro Vibe, Crybaby Wah), & other things tucked away:
    Yamaha DTX400 e-kit
    Alesis Q25 keyboard
    Shure SM57, Sennheiser e609, Audix i5, Samson CO-1, Behringer C1 mics

On the software side, I'm only gonna mention Reaper because it would take too long, & too much space to list everything I have....

Sadly, I had to sell the Marshall DSL100H, Ceriatone Chupacabra 50w, & a few other things to survive last year, but I'm still goin' at it...

Sorry for the long post, dunno if it's appropriate or not, if not, lemme know & I'll edit this to make it shorter...

Other than a new audio interface and some sound proofing, this has been my studio for the last year and a half. The desk was a gift from my wife that she scored at IKEA... pretty modular with the way you can adjust the shelves and sturdy as fuck <3

@aymat are those monitor stands built into that desk? Also I use like one of those slide trays to hold my keyboard is there enough room between your legs and table to do that?

Also, my dream workstation often involves sitting on the floor, perhaps with a cushion for my back and ass. Does anyone know if people have created desks that allow for that kind of thing? Chairs sometimes feel so constricting =P

Not floor, but I use a rolling "over the bed" table with a ODYUSA laptop stand clamped to it. Then a APC25, i7 laptop x/ G602 mouse, and an ID14 w/HD558s. That's some lazy bed programming at night/ and movies. When I'm ready to pass out, I just push the table out of the way and crash out! It's pretty awesome :)

@bluerover that's super hilarious! The over the bed table reminds me way too much of hospital stays =P Hopefully you're not terminally ill or anything like that (then I take back the super hilarious part). This would be highly impractical for me though since I don't possess a bed and aside from a few rare occasions here and there, I haven't slept on one for somewhere between 3-5 years now. I used deal with a hell of a lot more back pain and it's actually helped immensely.

In lieu of your laziness though I must share this idea I've had for years. I do hope to one day own a projector where I use the ceiling as a display, so I don't have to position my head at weird angles when I watch things in bed as well as play video games laying down.

Either way, I Googled it though and the floor situations don't seem to provide much desk space and since I have a slide out tray for my MIDI keyboard it seems like I can't do that at least not unless I find someway to build something.

@bluerover , thanks! You're such a doll for keeping an eye out!

Also that doesn't sound like a bad projector but I still mostly play SNES and I'm pretty sure every game system I own, I originally had to buy the separate RF adapter for but ended up upgrading to RCA at some point. I'm fairly certain though I don't have a single game system with an HDMI output. I wonder if I use an RCA to HDMI adapter how much it will downgrade the quality.

Kind of an afterthought to that, I wonder if projectors work with old school light guns. I know all the newer TVs can't use them but I wonder if it's the same with projectors.

That being said, I should def not dipping into my funds and have a perfectly functioning TV and it definitely plays light gun games. So perhaps my dreams will have to wait =P

. . . can you imagine though playing Duck Hunt on Nintendo and actually shooting at the ceiling, that would be kind of hilarious!

There's no slide tray on this desk and probably wouldn't be able to mount one on it since it would be a pretty tight squeeze. The monitor stands came with the desk and are detachable so you can mount inside like I did or outside as well. Theres also room enough underneath the computer monitor to fit a full size keyboard or synth as well, provided you're using a tower (which the desk has two stands below for on either side).

Glad you like it. I was looking for practical and cheap solution that gives hi results (those light cheap stands don't work for me) and didn't expect that I'll find cinder blocks that are actually not aesthetically bad, they stack up nicely, very safe. I was pretty surprised.

These are garden blocks, you can find those in DIY (building/gardening material) markets/malls. I guess it's pretty common and easy to find.

  20. @shomyca .. Is the narrow piece of wood between the monitors enough to damper the blocks from resonating at their specific tuned frequencies? It seems really not to me.Perhaps something else would work better, something absorptive unlike wood which makes a great transfer mechanism.
