I sense hostility in your words. My "first ever post" was trying to explain that, despite the territorial divisions, we are Italy, one state, united. That's it. Any subdivision in "categories" is merely prejudice.

 

Yeah, that's still not racism, though, it's data collection. And you haven't answered the question.

Given the context of being part of an enrolment pack for an unknown learning instite (which could easily be a foreign language school for instance), I'd guess the quoted paper is all about gaining accurate information about the applicants. I certainly don't see anything sinister in giving people the opportunity to identify with their chosen region/group.
For example, I don't like being called British, just English.

And as for finding hostility in my words, well, I won't lose sleep over your flawed logic.
And if you're that concerned about percieved racism in that image, how come you never mentioned the three Kurdish entries?

Indeed, despite being stamped as racist by OP, it could just be another hamfisted attempt at political correctness,
allowing Italians who identify with one region or another to state their preference, on what kind of Italian they
wish to be considered. Then of course in this age of victimhood, and sainthood of the offended at every turn,
they get the blustery apology they "expect"

this thread is silly, but bespeaks of the interminably silly world we are living in now

p.s. Italians... in case you are feeling piqued, pretty much everyone is still aware.. that
most or a good part of Western civilization is founded on what the Roman Empire
accomplished, including the basis for a majority of Western European languages..

so.. I would not feel too bad..

Thing is, I know how people from South feel when sh*t like this happens, in Italy between North and South, and outside Italy. I've experienced episodes of prejudice in England, but I was cool with them because I know we are not all the same. Maybe it's just that you don't feel the difference, talking from the perspective of an English citizen.

 

Ok, I tried to find news about this. Unfortunately it seems to only be a topic in Italy. Neither English media nor international media reported yet. But there was one article on Bitfeed, unfortunately in a very strange English - maybe Google-translated from Italian. However, I could identify this part:

That doesn't sound very racist to me.

Every country? In England, as far as I know, the richest area is in and around London, isn't it? And London is pretty much south, isn't it? Another example: Germany. The poorer part is the eastern one.

Yes was gonna say.. generally yes but in England the south/London is by far richer

EDIT but then IN London... North is historically richer. Evidenced by much more tube lines running North of the river.

I wouldn't know what English people may or may not find "funny" or "suffering from victimisation", so I won't make a rash race based generalisation about them having a lack of understanding like you just have, and I'm one of them, though I am sure many are enlightened enough to exhibit empathy.

Has anyone noticed (or is it just me?) that this is a list of languages?

I mean, unless someone can tell me what race / ethnicity (ie) Hausa, Hebrew or Hindi (etcs) refers to? I have no idea why so many Italians would describe their language as "Neapolitan", but I expect that enough of them said "va fa Napoli", when someone asked them such a stupid fukn question!

In other unrelated news, it seems like Silvio Berlusconi has refused to visit the earthquake zone in Perugia. Apparently, little Silvio won't go near any crack, once it gets that old! >__> <__<

Britain's Foreign Office has said it sorry for an online form that asks Italians resident in the UK if they are "Italian, Neapolitan or Sicilian" - 155 years after the unification of Italy.

Italian Ambassador to Britain Pasquale Terracciano told Adnkronos he was "satisfied" with the government's apology for the form which parents of schoolchildren in parts of England and Wales were asked to complete.

"It was an error due rather to ignorance and carelessness on the part of a few education authorities rather than a real wish to discriminate," Terracciano stated.
