I'm looking for people to participate in my online survey concerning authenticity and aesthetic quality of orchestra simulations. It is part of my studies in musicology.
In this survey, you will be asked to evalute six short music examples on the basis of a few questions. It will take about 20 minutes. I would be glad if some people participate.

Please no not use this thread to ask specific questions concerning the questionaire or to discuss the survey after your participation. Possible participants should not know the contents of the survey before they have participated themselves.

For what it is worth there you have it.

 

can't finish it. If your work is based on those examples, you are doing it wrong. Given examples are really shitty with even worse libraries used. Material you are using in your work simply can't be used for that purpose. You should choose better audio examples to get more relevant data. You will most likely get this question from comittee during your defense.

I agree totally, and I would add that one can not judge music just on "sound" as you put it in the survey. The music is made of great deal of different sounds, and when those sounds don't work well together (bad voice leading, bad orchestration, bad arrangement) than the music (and the "sound") sounds bad no matter of how good your mix or individual sounds are.

This reminds me if a time in 6th grade when the teacher handed us all a math test that consisted of 20 questions with a short two sentence instruction at the top of the page opposite of where we where to sign our names. As l scaned the test when it was first handed to me I immediately noticed that the questions were extremely simple and started banging away on the answers, finishing all twenty questions in little over a minute. Proud of my accomplishment I went to the top of the page to sign my name and finally read the instructions: Sign your name and date. Do not answer any of the questions but leave the page face down on your desk. I will always remember that test and hopefully everyone here that did not read the instructions for this survey will remember tulamide's admonishment. Welcome back to school.

 

Ouch! You're right dude, after i did the survey I totally forgot about OP's wishes. My sincere apologies!

But I must say, the study is deeply flawed and invalid to begin with. It's interesting, but it should be updated with better music samples.

That being said, once more, I apologies to OP for my ignorance!

 

I cannot take the survey as there is no sound. I cannot hear a thing. It was not heartening to have immediately picked up a typo in the instructions, "The play back will ___?___ with a short delay after you clicked "Next". Will what, not let me take the survey?
