Obviously you didn't read the original post. It isn't at all anything of your quoted sentence. Btw. the word "Idiot" was just chosen to seperate a certain group of people (that he defined very clearly) from others. He could have used any other word, but this one comes instantly to mind, so I won't blame him for using it.

 

OK there seems to be a bit of confusion on this one. I view the above qualities as being a complete package of attributes that are generally required for success.

I mentioned the dreamers as they are the ones I mostly come across and they are self-explanatory, but I have also met some insanely talented people who (as I have predicted) struggle to make it due to a complete lack of some of the above.

Talent is only the glue that holds it all together, you still need hard graft, tenacity and dedication, have the ability to learn and take new things on board, possess good communication skills and be able to accept suggestions and criticism, while also having the ability to collaborate with others and share ideas, and above all have a good attitude and be humble while you are at it. I've probably missed out some things, but you get the picture.

And it's not all about the quality of the material that people are able to produce today, it's also about how they intend to get where they want to go, and acknowledge the steps required to fulfil their ambitions.

Audio Sex has people with these kinds of qualities in abundance, which I find inspiring and it's the reason why I like to hang out here. I have also grown a lot musically through reading all the random threads and absorbing the information that is available here

So I stand by original point that music attracts all sorts of people who are ill-equipped for this diverse discipline, and they probably always will be. I was merely speculating on the reasons why this occurs, as the numbers seem disproportionate when compared to other professions.

but with a laptop, an internet connection, and a cheap midi controller, you can access massive musical production content..

Well you have to take certain things into account when you are trying to work with other people. My gut feeling is to asses those qualities that I mentioned above, and decide whether or not you could work with them. If you feel that you can't then move on quickly. I have wasted a lot of time with some individuals, and frankly I have witnessed some quite bizarre behaviour and baffling choices.

I only brought up this topic as I was interested in the experiences and views of others

I had fine arts roommate in Uni... he kept a pile of trinkets and various crap on his floor...usually you have to wait
