Does anyone know if its safe to update from El Capitan to OS Sierra? Will the downloads from the sister site work under a new OS? Is there a list of plugins that are incompatible?

Well, I know for sure that Plugin Alliance stuff is incompatible under Sierra. Bet there are a few more as always since El Cap.

So far, the main ones that are incompatible or having problems are Plugin Alliance and UAD. You also might want to check this out:

... and I'd suggest waiting a while for a point-one or point-two update before upgrading the OS. I just went through a nine-month nightmare getting from Lion to El Capitan. All that said, Sierra allegedly fixes a lot of problems, especially audio problems, that have been plaguing El Capitan.

I just did a clean install of Sierra and have installed most of my plugins (Logic X / AU). No extensive testing yet but everything seems to be working fine. I read from PluginAlliance that they're not ready; I own a few of their plugs and have installed and auth'd them, but haven't tried using them--they "look" to be fine though. Almost everything is legit licenses, fwiw, but that aspect shouldn't have much effect on this convo.

PS. I have tried installing Waves 9.6 Aug30 version from sister site (ie, cracked) and the installer always errors out. This is probably a Sierra problem? Hopefully a newer installer is released soon by R2R or whoever...

I haven't upgraded since Mavericks because... I don't need to. My system runs without a hiccup. And I jumped there from 10.6. If you are experiencing audio problems with your setup, maybe after waiting to see how Sierra holds up, then you'd be willing to switch. However, if it ain't broke, why fix it?
