So, here's what it is about: @almightyshux several times quoted parts of a post of mine out of context, thinking he'd prove something. Although I explicitly said that my words are only true within the context, he didn't stop and took again one sentence out of context, and made pretty clear that he disagrees with this sentence, although out of its context.

I didn't want to play his game (it would just be an endless "Yes it does, no it doesn't, blabla"), and since he obviously is absolutely convinced to only know the truth, I think the only way to show the fault in his thinking is to try an experiment.

First the quote in question:

Ok, so he sees it as a general issue, he can't stand that sentence. That also means, his thinking obviously is: "A melody alone makes a song."

Which leads us to the experiment: I want you all to whistle a few notes. Record them. Whistle another sequence of notes. Record them. Do so, until you have like, say, a dozen melodies. Now take the recordings to a notary, and make sure the date is notarized.

Then just wait. Have a listen to as many new tracks as possible, that were released after you notarized your melodies. As soon as you find a song where the melody matches one of your whistled tunes, sue the creator for having stolen your melody. Win, and report here (with documents that can be double-checked to avoid fakes).

If just one wins I'll run naked through the streets, yelling "Allmightyshux is a hero, I'm nothing", while scourging myself in the back. If nobody wins, @almightyshux might think about it again from another perspective.

My understanding is that chord tones and non-chord tones drive the melody from stable to unstable, depending on the choice of harmonising chords, so changing the harmonising chords will change the feel of the melody? Well that's how I do it anyway, a specific unstable lyric can be emphasised by using an unstable non-chord tone

Im a bass player, Ill change/invert the whole chord progression with a few notes. Have done this before when jamming/freestyling in my old band. Then its the melody that feels out.

A melody does not make a song, but it's a huge part of it (why? because it's the one that people follows singing, whistling and playing).
