Meh, I've heard bass patches from just about every software developer out there. The presets in this output bass engine are so stellar, and the timbre so pristine that imo there's really no need to do any resynthesis. Playing with the filters and fx alone alters the sound just enough to make it distinct yet hold it's character. Like I said, this library isn't for everyone, but sonically,it's definitely better than most vsti bass patches.

It's no synthesizer in the conventional sense, that's true. And $200 is pretty steep... I don't know, everything is so expensive these days. But my first impressions are that I love it. It's really great to have a diverse library of bass sounds all in one place, ready to be loaded up, played, and tweaked if I so desire. It has a gigantic library of sounds. I've only barely scratched the surface, but it's apparent Output are damn good at what they do. Also, the scripting and GUI design makes it feel like a slick, fully-fledged plugin. When you consider the ridiculous prices for stuff like Nexus and all its expansions, $200 doesn't seem like that much tbh.

I'm very happy with this product so far. It won't please hardcore synthesists who want to be able to tweak everything, but I can see it being popular among musicians who excel in composing rather than sound design. Admittedly I am part of the latter group.

    Peace, all.

Responding to your comment in a productive manner, my first suggestion is to tell you and those who feel the same to get Serum. It sounds like you want to design your own sounds. I just got it, and I love it. It's user-intuitive and expansive. There are tons of presets/packs out for it. But, I recently challenged myself (again) to 'learn' synthesis. After watching a few reviews and tutorials, I made the choice to get it - which coincidentally costs less than SUBSTANCE.

As for Substance, I have only seen a little bit of action. However, it's tweakable enough for the likes of me. I wouldn't think to start sound designing with it, because it appeals to me as an instrument for my music tracks.

I think Output has made their stand as (one of) the quick-quality-sound-library guys. You can instantly start using their sounds. Plus. You can choose from 300+ presets with each engine/library. Plus. They look amazing. Plus. All three of these points = inspiration.

    Discount. Plus.

I did laugh reading your comments~ For people like me, shiny & colorful designs are inspiring. I like being able to look at my interface and feel good about some part of it. It is similar to having a picture of someone on our phone's lock or home screen. They don't make it or us any better, but it helps to see something that you like or that motivates you. I do little tweaks to sounds in Kontakt, but I have my go to plug-ins for certain FX. I think that people know which 3rd party plug-ins they like. And, they'll use them. I have never heard anyone rave over Kontakt's (or any library's) reverb. I couldn't count how many times I've heard rejoicing over Altiverb.

I don't completely disagree. There are users who don't get as deep as you do. They may just do well with samples. Sound designing isn't for everybody. And, I believe that you wish for them to say exactly what it is. Not all devs do. Some lie, and some just try to sell their product. But, Output worked hard and released a valuable sound tool, a few times now. I was also able to reach Output's customer support and get a response. So, I dig the company. Save the fact that the video left something to be desired, it did intrigue me. So, I guess it worked. (I could and probably should contact them to get a more informative promo video out, tho.)

Everyone's milage will of course vary. But, for someone looking for great sounds, my opinion is that Output offers them. And, that's the bottom line of this post.

  4. That is for sure, plus the ability to layer other sounds or keyboard instruments with the Steam Engine and all within Omnisphere in order to create complicated and moving sounds. That would be my reason for buying Keyscape, not just for the fantastically sampled instruments themselves.

Yeah I really had a lot of fun playing around with exhale. I never tried Signal and not planning on trying this one but I think their high standard was obvious from my first/only experience with them.

Unfortunately, I don't have any intention to buy a $200 library, and don't even have Kontakt installed anymore, but if I were going to get a Kontakt lib Exhale would be, most likely, the first one.

With that attitude, why bother getting out of bed in the morning?

Haven't had a great amount of time on it. But I really like what I've heard so far. But then I'm a fan of Signal and Exhale as well.

I haven't tried out Substance yet, but I love OUTPUT products in the past... Never did much with Exhale, although it seemed interesting... Signal, not so much either, but I like it... (...need to spend more time).. but REV is one of my favorite libraries ever easily...
