No, not just a little keyboard manufacturer... they have also developed JUCE, a cross-platform audio framework that is used in many, many plugins.

They probably also want more options for software that is compatible with the full range of controls and CCs that the seaboard can produce.

Right now the only thing that is fully compatible is the Equator Synth they make themselves and bundle with the seaboard.

Synthesizers have been trying to break free of keyboards for a while now, things are starting to move forward again in the control surface and MIDI note definitions sections. Time will tell what is to come.

What FXpansion needs for sure is better marketing. BFD3 is on par with Superior Drummer 2 or even superior (top kek) at some places, though its optimalization sucks hard (or used to, don't know how is it now). Sadly, not many people even know that this drum library, let alone company exists, compared to Toontrack.

 

yeah that is kinda nice that they buy a lot of other companies, but how the fuck do they get the funds to buy this juice stuff and now fxpansion?

i mean there must be some big ass investor behind them that will ultimately fuck their path up hahah.

you cant tell me alone from making esoteric sea boards they are able to pull such an operation

or who knows more about their story.

Thanks @mozee , I wasn't quite getting what you were talking about. In my mind it was more like a Roli keyboard which I thought to be a gimmick and not a thing that would be in the end practical, useful to me and something that would fade into the future without making much of an impact, that is, until I saw this...and it made me want to go out today and buy one.

As someone who is a multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, keyboards and various other tools to express myself musically as well as a potter working in clay and a bodyworker spending years in the healing arts, touch and hearing are the two senses the that I have always most utilized as I walk through this lifetime. This Roll keyboard seems like a logical next step in my creative evolution.

still weird how it seems so desirable...

to me of course it looks awesome, but i saw it years ago and since to me its hard on the edge to be a unnecessary toy.

it can not do what a guitar can. think about picking, muting etc. and is shitty tp play live. who gives a fuck about a guy standing somewhere with a a hidden thing...
it can do nice vibrato on synths. yeah. and slides. and.... feels soft.
cool to have but there are also aftertouch keyboards, ask the guys from ensoniq ;)
