I have my own way of making it:
    1. Choose sub and top kick that are fit together. Sometimes little bit of tunning is needed so they can fit together.
    2. Sub Kick - insert in channel 1 (in mixer), then eq with hp at 40hz and with lp I cut most of mid and high frequencies.
    3. Top Kick - insert in channel 2 (in mixer) then with hp i cut most of low end freq. and a bit high shelf of high end.
Separated eq is needed so that both kicks freq. are not overlaping to each others.
    4. Then I route both my channel 1 and 2 to channel 3.
    5. After that I put some Transient plugin, Compressor, Saturation and Eq.

    any sugestion is welcome

I usually make mines with either Serum or Operator for the bottom and body (sinewave sweep... Serum mostly for wavetable mod by the envelope and operator for the same thing but with fm instead of wavetable). And I borrow whatever kind of click that would be useful, be it a stick sound, hihat, or just acoustic kicks, then as you said, rout everything to a 3rd channel and process (sometimes process individuals and then bounce and process the bounced kick). I recently tried Kick 2, and i can fully support @statik sugestion, it's a 1 shoe fits all plugin

dont underestimate punchbox either, 3 layerz for samples and 1 synth engine, i'm really liking it, it's almost making it hard for me to use my hardware

seems to be easiest way, because with a sampler can run into phase issues, like you can in the lovely overused vengeance samples.

if you have the money and the space, sure. but because we use naughty versions, shows we dont even have money to buy a vst.

I kinda think to an extent it really depends on what genre your programming and if your using one shots or drum maschines....
Puncbox is indeed excellent even as an allrounder for kick programming for many many styles indeed...
compared to say rp punch bd "the kick only vertion" i still prefer to use puncbox if i wanna use a mashine and not samples.
But i often use both methods in conjunction with eachother ,alongside an acoustic drum maschine "or sample of"...
How id design a kick in a straight up edm /dubstep trk for me is entirely different than how i would do so in dnb etc etc"which are my primary genres" learning a bit about transients helps alot too

i agree to a certain level, even if i'm using hardware and going for some harsh industrial noise kick i'll still layer a few kick, one with a distortion paddle and another one just clean for the oomph
rp punch bd never did it for me, attack from waldorf though has a lot of possibilities

the kicks i used in this one was one heavily distorted and one for the oontz/oomph factor

I always favored a drum synthesizer over samples for most electronic genera.

Doesn't matter each one is capable as long the time is put into it, for the simple reason of being able to modulate the drum hits to taste and not having to deal with the issues that slowing down, pitching or speeding up multiple samples almost always produces.

The point though is to not get stuck obsessing too much and get something done, you can tweak later and call it v2, but get v1 done first.
