    Hi all,

I have absolutely no regrets since I switched from XP to Seven... except for one thing : I can't make appear my sound files' bit depth, bit rate nor sampling rate in the Explorer anymore.
These three essential values (at least for all of us), which were present in XP are gone now... in favor of a bunch of other completely useless.

Does anyone knows a workaround or a plugin for Explorer which can resolve this ?

Note : I'm already using Classic Explorer (as a part of Classic Shell), but it doesn't help.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Your blackguardly Lord,
    LG

yeah well they are not visible when you view them plainly in explorer. You have to right click the audio file, select properties, then chose details on the tab. It will show you the bit rate under the label "audio". If it does not show you the bit rate from there then it was rendered out wrong from your DAW or you DAW is cracked. It should show up. I agree with you, there are a lot of changes from xp to 7! Hope this could help ya.

Yeah, as said, you can select the fields you want to see at the list right clicking the bar where currently visible fields appear. Click "More..." at the list and you can select even more fields, such as bit depth and pretty much everything.

Nothing in that regard has changed from windows xp , in windows 7 you may have more options but it's the same way of changing it, as exactly like the picture posted, no need to post mine since that is the right way of checking off file properties view details

    Cheers

dBpoweramp offer some of this functionality but it may slow explorer down a lot. (I have explorer tags off in dBPA)

    Everyone above is right.
Just set it to details view, right click the bar at the top. Select more and tick what you want.

But dose anyone have "bit depth" work on mp3's?
I never use to use it in XP so I might just be trying something that never worked. The bit depth list is blank on my mp3's

Not entirely sure but I think Bit Depth is for graphic files Jpg etc
Had mp3`s and graphics in same folder and Bit depth shows on graphics but not mp3`s.

Thanks to all for your help but my problem still remains.

On the screenshot below (sorry for my french Windows) you can see the only two sound related options that I can select in the long (and useless) list of details - there is no "sampling rate" nor "bit depth".
The .wav file were not modified by a cracked app, and despite of this the values doesn't show. (FYI, on XP the values was appearing, even when a sample had been proceeded in cracked apps - except for iZotope RX2.)

Debit de données = Data rate
Debit total (en bit) = Bit rate (in bit)

"You have to right click the audio file, select properties, then chose details on the tab. It will show you the bit rate under the label "audio"."

As you can see, there is no label "audio" in properties...

The painfull thing is that I'm not able to check in one view all the files properties, nor to sort the files by bit depth or sampling rate anymore. And that's a real PITA.

That's because there is no bit depth in mp3, but only bitrate (kbps) and samplerate (kHz). This explains why it's always better to make your mp3 encoding from a 32 bit floating point file than from the same file previously converted to 16 bit (you don't even have to appy a dithering anymore).
There is a free tool based on LAME encoder specially designed for this purpose : http://www.rarewares.org/mp3-lamedrop.php

Hello Lord Gaga, first sorry for my bad english, hope its a bit understandable for you! I generally recommend choosing a different file manager than this "win-shit" you work MUCH faster with a specialist like "total commander", it's multilanguage and runs on any win system. There are two different kinds of "total commander" out there, the small and excellent pre configured "total commander" and the 100mb+ "Total Commander ULTIMA PRIME" for Hardcore "File-Users" and many cool features\plugins for every situation on board.

Just take a look at the "ghisler" programmers site and check it out! here i post now a small "MP3" situation on standart Total Commamnder for you... Different Files have different colors (mp3 is set on blue here) now put a right click on the Data Structure and change it from "Long" to "3 Audio" that looks like this :

and see what happens (infos at the top) :

(This are standart presets, you be able to do\add MUCH more individually things just like this at the Options menue, also at this media info config) see here:

...give it a try, i promise that this (or such a file tool like this) makes your life easyer (if you spend for the first some minutes \ hours with a tool like this)... Cheers
