Last Day for a free Windows 10!

Discussion in 'PC' started by Jasmine, Jul 29, 2016.

  1. I am not casting aspersions towards you, Jasmine, when I say, that is how it is done! A need is created that forces even the most wonderful, thoughtful and best of us to make a decision that in the end is against our own best interests in regards to sovereignty in order to function and to connect with the rest of society, to be "normal like everyone else" and to get on getting on. It all makes me very sad.

You must be kidding! Really?? :hahaha:

The latest and greatest insult from Microsoft... Not that I have anything against the disabled people, but that just sounds weird.

    Cheers! :headbang:

  3. I guess that they choose to extend the offer to this broadly defined group in an awkward attempt to portray the company as caring and thoughtful, but yes, it is a bit awkward.

Is it the pro version? There seems to be a difference.

They keep their advertising options strong. Even stronger on non-pro versions. I like the people from Microsoft. They are so straight...awesome!

Nice, how they guide users and administrators to a better world. It's a commitment for freedom and prosperity!
The more we consume, the better the world. Thank you Microsoft. I can feel your love and responsibility for our societies.
That's far beyond slogans like "We make a better world".
That's a real commitment in action. Don't be evil was yesterday. Take your power and be good for everyone. Nice, very very nice.
Oh my god...I feel so much love now. Our world will be guided and protected by Microsoft. Think about it...there is nothing wrong with it.
There is nothing to fear. No more!

To feel the ultimate guidance, we should switch to the non-pro version. Is there a downgrade option?

The amount of paranoia going on about win10 is too damn high when every single person uses a mobile phone these days, which is the best tool to track someone down. For me, win10 has fixed too many issues. Random BSOD, audio glitches, drivers not working correctly, better graphics, better cpu usage, less ram usage or more efficient.. but at the end of the day, people still want to use outdated OS in hopes that they can't be tracked down or spied. Are you really that naive? The only way you can avoid getting spied is removing the ethernet cable/wifi, destroying your phone's battery and live in the woods...

If you think you're being spied, you are. It's every search entry you put on google or other search engines. Every keystroke you use on websites, even the porn you browse is being registered somewhere to be used when you browse next time.

Facebook probably spies on you too. Those like suggestions? Yea

Currently Using Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB build 14393 (Latest). Working very well. There are no bloatwares like cortana or edge or windows store. If you are a windows 7 user, stick to it. But somehow if you want to use windows 10 and you love windows 7, this version is the way. Unfortunately this version can't be bought for personal use. It is for enterprise use only. That's why I got it from generation 2 at tpb.

Free upgrade is apparently not over. I clean installed a computer last week with Win10, entered my unused Win7 OEM key and it activated fine.

It won't be long before M$ find something else to annoy us with...
....and have us all implement a work around!

It isn't a scam, installed it and been happily using it for months now. Had to upgrade from Win7 to Win8 to Win10, never looked back.

There is nothing wrong with advertising on lock screens. It makes the world more consumable.
So we can begin with something new earlier.
But my win 10 is definitely slower then my win 7 in any perspective. And all this transitions uh, uh ,uh.
Just copy some files and compare the times. But I know, it's for the future and a better world.

Advertisements in lockscreen are something you can turn off no problem, just like I did. And stuff like weather and email notifications is something I actually like to have when I get to my PC, just like on my phone.

And Win10 on my setup actually feels a lot faster and smoother than Win7. For copying I use TeraCopy anyway as since Vista before it actually starts moving stuff it "calculates" its size and does a whole bunch of unneeded crap (it skips that slow Windows stuff and calculates checksums by itself to verify... or you can use terminal for same superfast speeds)

Hello, I'm just free to write some words...

Next to the 'Alien new World-Order-Marketing-Strategy'- from the technical perspective it's the architecture per se.
Who the fuck needs transitions while working in Excel or typing in Word. It lets power users cry. I know we can disable this.
There are so many bullshit improvements. Some can have been disabled, some not.
But Windows 10 has definitely a 'slower' usability for power users then Win 7.

My first impression was Microsoft lost any self confidence and Windows tries to be a Smart Phone.
And at the same time, I never saw so many bugs in Microsoft's own products.

They have a growing quality problem, while firing thousands of developers, because of shareholder value.
There are some nice features. But they are all based on a '1984-policy', so unacceptable.

All in all Win 10 is a big bullshit.

...but wait, there is this voice into my head...what did Cortana say not to do...oh, no no no...

Actually Windows 8 was already far more capable in terms of boot time than Windows 7, and Windows 10 improved that by a smidge as well. Also I don't know about you, but the ability to skip the start menu entirely and just win+s, type C, press enter to launch Chrome is quite a bit faster than going through two screens of folders with random junk. And win+x (or right click on start button) then press a letter to open Programs & Features, Mobility Center (brightness, volume, battery profile and external display settings), Event Viewer, System info (still faster to win+page/break but whatever), Device Manager, Computer Management (with Disk Management and stuff) and Command Prompt, as well as the command prompt as admin. Yes, it's definitely waaaay faster to go start > show me fucking everything not just 5 last apps > where the fuck are system tools > who made these random folders > oh there it is > crap I forgot to right click and run as admin. Yay, Win7 is the best operating system in the world! Definitely Win10 kills power users by being unbearably slow!

if main concern is fast start up and quick access to chrome maybe smartphone is best?

P&F, Mobility Center, Event Viewer, System info, Device manager, Computer management, Command Prompt, this is all stuff a pro want to stay away from, enter once fix and exit, not enter over and over again. BTW Windows logo key +X Open Windows Mobility Center. = Windows 7.

Here is list of windows 7 hotkeys which most ppl dont even use http://www.shortcutmania.com/Windows-7-Keyboard-Shortcuts-printable-cheatsheet.htm

    Windows 10 fast booting is blessing and curse;

Fast Startup combines elements of a cold shutdown and the hibernate feature. When you start the computer again, Windows does not have to reload the kernel, drivers, and system state individually. Instead, it just refreshes your RAM with the loaded image from the hibernation file and delivers you to the login screen. This technique can shave considerable time off your start up.

    Why You Might Want to Disable Fast Startup;

When Fast Startup is enabled, your computer doesn’t perform a regular shut down. Since applying new system updates often requires a shutdown, you may not be able to apply updates and turn your computer off.

Fast Startup can interfere slightly with encrypted disk images.

Systems that don’t support hibernation won’t support Fast Startup either.

When you shut down a computer with Fast Startup enabled, Windows locks down the Windows hard disk. You won’t be able to access it from other operating systems if you have your computer configured to dual-boot.

Depending on your system, you may not be able to access BIOS/UEFI settings when you shut down a computer with Fast Startup enabled. When a computer hibernates, it does not enter a fully powered down mode. Some versions of BIOS/UEFI work with a system in hibernation and some do not.

So in short what you're saying if you're blowing you might as well take it up the arse too, right? :hahaha:

People know they're being tracked by companies like Google and Facebook even when using Linux, but it just feels much better when you're being tracked less, and it feels much better to be able to disable this by not using Google and Facebook at all, for example.

The problem with Windows 10 is that you can't disable it. :winker: The best way I know of is to use Linux, or a Linux VM for Internet.
