I'm not sure if this has been addressed elsewhere, so apologies for any repetition. I've been using Kontakt successfully within Logic on a Mac for many, many years. I've used both legit and…the other. When possible , I like to keep my library banners in logical library sections, e.g.: strings, brass, woodwind, percussion, etc. ,etc. Until about a week ago this has served me really well, but suddenly one day I opened K5 and found a lot of the banners had changed position. Bizarre and annoying, plus it's cost me time trying to figure it out and locating libraries quickly for work, as I'm used to.

I've done some experimenting, but have not yet come up with a solution . I threw preferences away, reset permissions, reinstalled, etc … pretty much everything I can think of I've done. Once in a while, over the years, I noticed one or two libraries would sneakily change order, but this was a shoulder-shrug, really, and not big deal. However, this is total chaos!

Another thing that has started to happen is if I open K5 ( standalone or in Logic ) my East West RA library suddenly has an empty banner and I have to re-add it, after which all is fine, until I open K5 again . But that doesn't happen every single time. It's all very mysterious. It's not Logic, because I've had this happen in standalone, too. Only the RA library is affected !

Does anyone please have an idea what I can do to restore my banners to their predictable, controllable order? Many thanks for any suggestions.

Stuff like that may happen if at least two librairies have the same ID. Check your NICNT files for info.

Many thanks for that suggestion, Yabiss. Weirdly, I was thinking along those lines yesterday, as I was having trouble adding a library with a home-made banner / NICNT. Once I'd fixed that, it appeared that banners were staying put, when I'd re-arrange them. I will certainly look into this and report back if I solve it.

And thank you, nikon, I will definitely check that out ! I think I must have been lucky for many years, as this is only a recent , on the scale I'm now experiencing.

OK, unfortunately that utility is only for Windows. I'm on a Mac. But thanks anyway.

This has now been solved, thanks to Spencer26. He's been a great help and I can honestly tell anyone who is going nuts with random , jumbled library banners, it's definitely worth spending the time using the Terminal to lock the User plist files. My whole library is now as solid as a rock, and I've learned a new skill. Great !
