Although it sounds like there's a lot going on, I wouldn't say it's too busy. There's a bass rhythm, which is the only part that has an arp format, but it's probably a sequencer, looking at the kind of equipment he has. It's not playing a too complex pattern, which is then repeated to keep thiings moving along smoothly. The other sounds are pads with reverb, not being side-chained, or only slightly, and the guitar and drums. The sonic textures are different enough, so as not to be fighting each other. The vocals on top.

He's producing IDM (Intelligent Dance Music - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligent_dance_music), maybe a better replacement for the EDM. Not this one much but his other ones.

Meh. IDM came before the "modern" EDM (of which I think you are referring to), and is still much better than the current copy/paste EDM music (which is, as I see it, digging its own grave). I see something new and exciting coming in the horizon though.

You seem to have missed out a bit (Boards of Canada, Tycho, Trentemoller, Lusine/Lusine ICL, Aphex Twin (ambient work), Tangerine Dream, Proem, Jon Hopkins, Lights Out Asia, Ametsub, Kettel, Solar Fields, Plaid, Trifonic, etc etc). Happy hunting!

Been listening to them since 2007 I think. I even suggested to them that they shouldn't limit the crap out of their playlist. They listened to my suggestion a bit and agreed, eased up on the comp/limiter a bit (not as squashed as before), but it's still quite squashed. :/

We Just L O V E his music. For Others Like Him, Brian Eno or Kevin Kendle come 2 mind.

I originally first heard this Ulrich Schnauss "Stars" song in a Cadillac commercial a couple years back. Awesome song. Reminds me of some of my stuff. Ulrich is a very talented guy. Him & Tycho are among my favorites.





Somewhat reminiscent of that music. Not the best quality because 4/5 of these songs are super old (before I even knew how to mix & master my songs professionally).
