I have a question about the results after using autotune which are shown in this video ''the music industy is fake''.

First you hear his orginal voice, then the autotune effected voice but after that @ 3:15 it sounds so clean. How to get such results? even if i could get close to such results, that would be so awsome. Then i can finally use my own (''normal'') voice in my productions.

 

You should try Melodyne or IL Newtone. The latter has three knobs making the work really simple and great sounding : one controls the amount of variations/vibrato of each note, one changes the tuning, and the last one smooths up transitions between notes, but I'm not sure if it's also available as a VST...

 

This video is 3 years old and they used Waves Tune. But as said, try Celemony Melodyne. It's a powerhorse for this sort of stuff.

 

Haha, this RT video is utter bullcrap. You can't autotune a deaf vocalist without sounding like Cher in "Believe". Autotune/audio manipulation is not even powerful like Photoshop on pictures: one can make minor or advanced corrections but one can't transform a random 50+ women from the street in a magazine cover model.

 

I understand that you need a certain skill to get good autotune results, but i was amazed when i heard the difference from the so called t-pain effect to the clean part.

Let me put it this way; if i can sing like the guy in the example (ok its very short to hear his real voice but you get a tiny idea) i will be able to get roughly the same results. There is no magic involved? :D

It's simply in the montage, You get a T-pain effect when you hit the wrong notes on purpose.

as you can see it's set up to mock the products. what you hear in the third part was not from the same material.
It was probably taken from a part where the guy did try a little bit more.

What I don't get is why they freaking lip-sync since there are tons of solutions to tune in live settings,

if your album is tuned is not a reason to lip sync in any way. The same goes for the drummer, his parts are quantized, and for the guitarist because his parts are dubbed, the bass player because his parts has been done over by the engineer because the bass player actually sucked, ETC, ETC,

See where I am getting at? I suggest They bring a good live engineer who knows his stuff,
all you really takes is a netbook with a small interface and any daw.

Forget about that video, it's all fake. Search youtube for legit examples of before/after processing. And keep in mind that even if you can correct the pitch of a vocal, you can't do anything when it comes to character, so depending on what result you're after (more like Pitbull or more like Busta Rhymes) you need someone with an appropriate timbre.

 

Choosing your Autotune settings carefully can avoid very annoying/unnatural-sounding artefacts that are so prevalent on many released CDs.

 

If you truly believe this, then you should check out Melodyne 4 Studio. Formants allow you to change the character of one voice to to that of another. You can also change the melody they are singing, make harmony parts that sound like they were sung by different people. It is easy to just change 1 note within a recorded complex chord. There is so much more I can't tell you here. So I put a review on the post.

We are already living in the future. I lived through a time where it was unimaginable that you could ever have a recording studio in your home. Really.

I think you are mistaken. Technology has come a long way.

I'm however glad that I can sing in key (and actually have difficulty singing OUT of key).

 

Trust me, i come from both wolds (audio and video).I think you haven't seen any retouching done lately.

Partially true only. Of course if given the choice you would preferably take a good singer with a specific voice but now this comes second to a great face and body at least in the pop industry. Buyers are 12 years old females. The others simply to not buy music anymore. And live concerts are far too risky for a poor skilled but famous singer. Autotune or lipsyncing is king.

the sonic capability's of tuning are way beyond that, we like our Legato/Portamento on our synth.
to an extend it can make great Glissando effects, one could copy a track, tune it diffrent and only keep the overtones or create Dissonant parts

 

Agreed. I know what you are saying.
I just mean that I have "trouble" singing out of key, as I'm too locked in on the intervals (after 25 years of doing so, studying it and working in the field). That's all.

 

It's true. Silly horny men's minds work like that. I used to think so too (back in the 90s, I bought Britney Spears albums, luckily I got wiser), that if we listen to the music of some sexy pop star, it somehow would make it possible that we were going to have sex with that pop star :D Don't ask where the logic is. But that's how it is. Like a sexy chick on a car ad or car show, makes your mind think that if you buy that car, that chick is going to have sex with you. LOL.

So when you buy the album, you are basically buying the idea of having sex with that artist.

 

Not really. Everything young and beautiful is more attractive than anything old and ugly .
Young people are interested in the new artists and genres (even if they are something recycled from the past with a new cover).
