This is one of my favorite records. Two reasons;song writing and mix, both top notch.
Some DT fans dont like it but for me its one of the best Dream Theater records along with Awake.
Kevin Shirley(mix engineer) did an amazing job imo,the whole record shines, dynamic, warm yet punchy.
If you can get a copy of DTs Falling into Infinity you will see what i mean.
One of the best sounding drums.
    Bass guitar sounds amazing.
    Everything works.
    Top notch.
Album was released on 23rd. of september,1997.

Anything that features Jordan Rudess gets my vote. I don't even need to hear it :)

He joined after this record, but did audition with DT prior Sherinian joined, yet decided not to join because he just became a father at that time and wanted to spend more time with his child and wife.

DT hardcore fans here! Love all of DT albums except Dramatic Turns because they new drummer transition and feel weird to me.

Yes this album was very musical, and great sounds also. Kevin Shirley not only mixed but produce the album too. The next three albums after this also mixed by himself, only the producer chairs was sat by Petrucci and Portnoy.

    Agree.
He also went and mixed some Iron Maiden records.
Agree about the drummer,Portnoy is dearly missed, havent bought anything DT related since he left.
Also imo DT sound better when an outsider produces them.

The self titled and last album are started to good again musically, imho, but I never like the drums sound of Mangini. The snare is too bulky.
Well I'm just gonna say, old DT fans love Portnoy, new DT fans love Mangini, and TRUE DT fans love em all. Cheers!
