I don't know anything about the waves vst's, but the imager in Ozone is extremely useful, as it can also be loaded to each track to check things out. As for the rest of it, you still have to learn to use it properly, because it's not some magic pill.

The don't use headphones argument does make me chuckle. As with any listening medium, you have to know it like the back of your hand, be it headphones, computer speakers, stereo speakers, or studio monitors.

It's simple. If the drum & Bass suonano come un edificio, it is already partly won. After one must add other instruments wisely. To know if the mix between the different instruments, they will have to listen to una piccola radio portatile. This is the best way to know if it your song is audible on any support. In fact, like many reviews some prefer to listen on huge PA speakers and satisfy their mixes. It's a really bad ideas and you can believe me. Don't remember that i have a huge studio professional named I.P.C Studio Recording at Bruxelles capital dell'Unione Europea di merda. So I say that I know whats about a mix and a recording, its my job since the 1980's. Go to buy on Radio Shack a FM Radio and listen yours music. I'm Dafcan's and we are on Audio Sex. A voi i monolocali e benvenuto a H2O.

Chuckle all you want, but it was no general statement like "all resistance is futile". Almost everything that is wrong with the songs he posted are typical symptoms associated with headphone use: Flat, narrow, dry. Those are the archetypal errors of headphone production.

@LV4-26 it may be your job since the 1980s but that google translation of yours is hilarious and balderdash.

I have been seeing a lot people talking about mastering and mixing like is something you can do in your bedroom or software you can just use and BAM :dont: ....mixing and mastering have much more to do in what type of environment you do it, then actually software...

So if you want to mix your shit tight, then make sure you acoustically treat your room as best as you can.

My advice is get a good set of Monitors that can give you the Flattes signal you can get.
It will allow you to hear unwanted frequency and noises which you can get rid of by using Plugins

Get a good set of headphones for proper panning, sound position with in the sound spectrum and minor twiches.

And get normal speaker for testing your mix, you can user your house stereo or a friend cars, etc.

Don't worry about "mastering" right at this point....I have realize that many people believe they have master their track because they use some kind of mastering plugin, drop a preset in top of it and then do minor twicking or just blast of their limiters..but reality is that mastering is far from that.

... not entirely true, I've seen mixes come out of untreated bedrooms that blew me away, because; the guy knew what he was doin.
@Jesus Rivera , just mix, mix & mix some more. Take 10 of your favorite and best sounding albums and use those for reference. Watch tutorials like mentioned by @rhythmatist and read up on the physics of audio and electronics. Try to get some decent speakers that fit your room / studio. But don't throw your headphones away. They're a reference too.
In reality; neither. Hardware is. But you can get very 'decent' results with both. The learnig curve of Ozone is below that of the individual plugs of Waves. Ozone is a all in one stop, Waves gives you individual plugs to chain. And oh yea, don't be discouraged if you don't find a secret recipe in an instant. Keep at it, compare and progress.
    Cheers!

I'm not an expert, but I for sure am better than years ago.
My advice, from one who would ask the same questions, is: "just keep doing it".

I mean there's no real magic here, just keep working on it and you'll become more familiar with it. Easy as that :)

I think, in my opinion, that the most important thing (after the music per se, and not even that much after all) is the mix.
I heard very good music but horribly mixed, which made me wanna stop hearing it just because it was so bad mixed that you couldn't even enjoy as it deserves.

Tips for the fledgling audio engineers. Look into top down mixing. This might be the answer you are looking for. Google it.
