So I'm just obseriving music on radio recently and many are going towards the 80s feel. Olly Murs and The 1975 new song especially (recently). I've always loved that style of music, and particularly the sounds they use. A Midnight, nostalgic, relaxed sound overall.

Do you know what software or library would have sounds like this? (Start at 3 minutes in)
The sound I'm looking for is pretty basic I guess, the bell type sound/e piano?

Also, are there any other vsts that create great 80s type sounds. And stuff like in that video above? I do realise mixing is a huge part to the sound as it sounds big and wide, yet nice and clean with the other sounds.

Any other tips or techniques (that you're willing to share) that will give an 80s type effect?

    Thank you in advance!

"Best '80s sounds" is an oxymoron.

I've said this too much already
if you want 80's sound, you must compose your music in 80s style first. Then all you need is saw oscillators, arp, chorus & reverb.

Superwave Bundle. Especially Superwave Performer is filled up with well known Patches from 80's Songs you directly know when you trigger it

Ha you've said way too much already... I get the need for arp, chorus and reverb, I have the mixing fairly down. It's just that E-Piano sound. It just melts into me. Wondering more about the type of software that would best give this sound off. I have Arturia bundle which I need to explore more, and I think that will help mostly. Just need external ideas for sounds now.

Uvi have digital synsations, which has 4 different sampled synth engines from the 80's and 90's. Whats more, it has been made available free in March for a number of years, but the offer is no longer on so you would have to buy it until the offer is on again. I saw an post hear on audiosex in March this year and got a free licence.

As they mentioned above, the superwave bundle is very nice for 80s stuff. You also have Synth1, SQ8L, FM7 (by NI), the Waldorf series, TAL-U-NO-LX, the Korg legacy, etc etc.
Or you can simply get something like Massive or any other software like that and get presets pack 80s oriented.

Gated reverb snare, any synth with good 80s presets like Diva, OB-X and or use a bank for Sylenth, you are good to go.

Just get spire & some other synths & grab every single preset pack pack that has "synthwave" or "New Wave" in its title. The 1975 has a rather synthwave sound to it, & you'll be sounding like them with some of the new wave & synthwave preset packs. That electric piano can be simulated via Spire, believe it or not. Seems farfetched, but it's been done before, trust me. Just look around a little bit, you'll thank me later.

I'm 51 so the eighties were my golden era.

So, if you have some cash UVI stuff is just great. Also, U-he Diva is the best synth for these sounds IMHO

If you're broke Synth1 is the best bargain there is. you have to listen to this guy's soundbanks to believe it.

This is just one. Browse all the eighties bands this guy has covered...
