I decided to be lazy and stop shaving and grow a beard for the first time. I've had a Go-T, chin strap and I've had burns all cleanly shaven and well maintained, but now I'm going into the jungle of entangled hair and itchy bearded woes. I can tolerate the beard, but the mustache is just so freaking annoying, so I ended up trimming it down. It feels like I have a cold with a mustache.....it just irritates my nose all the time. Maybe I'm just not meant to have a beard? Anyway, my question to you bearded dudes is - if I grow it really long, will it stop being itchy? Is the problem I'm having the fact that it is only long stubble?

    Short answer: yes.

That initial growth period is the most irritating and itchy. How long it lasts depends entirely on how fast your facial hair grows. It takes me between 2 to 3 weeks to get past it but once the whiskers get long enough, you should be fine. I dont do a lot of upkeep when I grow my beard out, mostly shave under the neck to keep the outline looking clean and trim the random rouge whisker with some scissors. If I'm particularly lazy, I'll just take the clippers to it and trim it down to an even length but I usually get better results just using scissors :)

Lol... I remember reading years ago that Gillette offered him $1 million to shave. His answer: "No dice. Even adjusted for inflation, this isn't going to fly. They prospect of seeing oneself in the mirror clean-shaven is too close to a Vincent Price film … a prospect not to be contemplated, no matter the compensation."

it takes me an eon to grow any facial hair feature, and it will itch and irritate all the way. once there it's fine.
this is particularly so in hot weather. so, i am denuded constantly and forever. cannot be bothered even having stubble in 30 degress c weather..
strange to answer a question on beard-age in an audio forum : )

We as humans don't have an identity in absolute terms but rather we model ourselves entirely from the culture surrounding us (or what we read, but point is we model from already existing culture). If wearing a shirt instead of a t-shirt helps our business, we are doing it. If making todays music helps the sales better than doing the 1880s music, we do it. If growing a beard helps with social life, blending in or whatever the reason it, I see no problem in doing it.

That or shaving your balls, whatever rock your boat.
I'll keep on having an identity without refering to others, they look damn stupid.

As a social beings, we have an inherent desire to be part of a society and thusly have a social life, so you're definitely right. And if we spin further the thought of the tall poppy syndrome, it becomes even more obvious that the more you adapt, the more you'll be accepted.
But If there is one lesson history tought us it's that going with the mainstream simply to help social life or blending in is the worst guiding principle imaginable. Something we can again observe these days in almost every single aspect of our everyday life.
So yes, it may be useful, but going with the mass is something I'm pretty uncomfortable with. Given our common denominator on this forum, I guess that's the case for most of us.
But anyhow, as far as beards, lumberjack shirts, stacks at half-mast, belly tops, trucker caps and other fashion aberrations and confusions are concerned, I have to admit the risk seems manageable :)

It's annoying because then I would have to shave my beard off as I had one before the hype train started... I practically came out the womb with a full beard... Which means i'm equally a hipster for trying to go against the grain. It's all loss/loss in this life

But seriously, it it benefits your attitude and the way you feel and see yourself, then no qualms.

My beard itched when i started to grow it but when the hairs were long enough and I just made sure i washed it like I would my hair on my head It was fine. However when i shaved it off recently, the itching came back with only a little bit of hair!

Given our common denominator on this forum, I think that our main training should be observing the world in which we want our product to be enjoyed and acting accordingly so we maximise the results of our promotional efforts :)

It's similar to when you shave your balls - as the hair grows back, it stops being itchy.

You don't like having yesterday's chunk of pizza *freshly* from a guy's beard, Beth?!

For shaving balls, I usually go with a 3mm clip guard and slowly... wait... nevermind.

I never fully understood the whole hating on beards trend. Yes, I get how trends can be annoying and just about anything associated with male modeling/fashion can be seen as complete douchebaggery, but since when has facial hair ever really been a trend? Neanderthals had the whole "beard trend" on lock down before everything became post-modern and ironic.

I cut off my beard when people with long beards started to bomb others.
And I must say, I'm feeling more comfortable now, especially in the summer.
