    Or you could do http://www.voxengo.com/product/lfmaxpunch/

What these things do, is add subharmonic(s) and maybe overtones. You can do basiclaly that for FREE, if you have a MIDI synth, and add a sine sub + LP'd saw.

more often then not, I find that my mixes have already have a lot of low end activity.
Im usually tape saturating the hell out out of the subs on a parallel track to make em stand out on smaller speakers and earbuds. Adding 2nd and 3rd order harmonics as opposed to LOW subharmonics

I use MaxxBass. Does about the same thing as LoAir. I record my Kubicki Factor bass with just the pick up balance the way I want and nothing else. Then I run it through MaxxBass. I high pass filter everything that doesn't need to be "down there", also. I wish I had had that tool and known more about filtering on some of my earlier stuff, now that I understand how to use it a little better.

funny how everybody mentioned maxx bass and lo-air,

I ditched both for Rbass, which does the same thing as lo-air I guess, but it's easier to tune-in in my opinion.

I also like decapitator on subs.

I saw a guy on a forum offering to sell one of his kidneys to pay for one of these.

I use different plugs to get there, but the application is the same. The tape saturation will give you a "rounder" sound. As soon as you start messing around with the different saturation models you will instantly recognize the sounds. Decapitator is a great plug for this too because it has all the different models in it. I use it and sometimes the saturation in ozone as well. If you got the ozone with the separate modules as plugins

Yeah, I've been using Tape Emulators for a few tracks. I find it's best for drums and I also use the Decimort a lot. Kramer tape and Slate Digital have great ones. It really brings out the sound and rids that digital cleanliness.

On the neck it says 055 07 85. I think that means it's serial number 055 and was built in July of 1985-- which is when I ordered it. Drums/percussion is my 1st instrument, but I play bass well enough to know this is a sweet guitar.https://plus.google.com/u/0/+AllenL...6073159906381061922&oid=106735685007499406021

I'm a "Jazz" pianist who also plays an upright bass. Though it's possible to find a reasonable piano VST, I've found just about every (acoustic) bass plugin wanting. Personally, I like my instruments "natural" sounding (no enhancements) save for volume level control. In a world dominated by "808", I guess I'm among a dying breed. But, guess what? I could NOT care less.

On that PMJ video above, it's all acoustic instruments live in their own recording\video studio. Sounds very good, even on YouTube. And it has ladies in leopard print dresses!

@rhythmatist since this thread is pretty well bass'd I noticed you have the MPA pre... do you use it only for vocals
or does it work well for instruments such as bass.. or do you record bass DI.. or your GIANT bass amp rig mic'd?

I have had a lot of trouble just getting a good clean bass sound using my interface,
have tried some passive DI, but still has issues, I don't have a bass amp..
tried Ampeg SVX too... that helped a little

I don't use the tube pre-amp for bass, I can't hear as much difference in those frequencies run through a tube as I can other things. Most of the time I run bass straight into my PreSonus interface, make it sound nice in my phones or monitors, then monkey with it in the mix (Usually a JJP Fairchild imitation and MaxxBass) I also have an early eighties SVT. I crank it up and mic it (Senn. e902) when I want something a little more retro. That guitar has a lot of control built into it. It will sound hi-tech or "Fenderish". I use MPA on my vocal mic and any mic that needs a little more gain, like my Cascade ribbon. (Cascade Fathead ribbon with a pre and Aphex Aural Exciter! Aphex puts some sparkle on a ribbon.)

3rd house on the left. The one with the lemon trees
2 different things. The one adds subharmonics, the other "reads" low end and adds mid-bass frequencies just to get "audible" signal on smaller speakers etc
