is there anyway to enter numerical values for automation points in the playlist? i find it hard to get precision when i know what i want to enter instead of just eyeballing it which slightly crude.

Not an FL user but I have a handful of IL plugins. I don't know about any differences with the playlist, but in the plugs holding the left ALT button will at least snap to the nearest whole value (careful - right ALT+click will delete your automation point, as will left ALT+right-click). I know it's not entering number values but it's something.

as it turns out, the latest version of FL now allows input of numeric values.
