My Win 10 Pro (for free) journey

    **************
    *** Day 01 ***
    **************

First of all... i have upgraded to WIn 10 Pro from Win 7 Pro because July 29 is near, and I want to keep the new Product Key and save $119,00.

The installation process has been completed in ~20 minutes easly (no crash, no trash, no scream... until now). My test pc has:

    i5 2500K
    4 GB DDR3
    WD 500 GB (x2)

    and I can suggest:

    ■ better cpu
    ■ 64-bit O.S.
    ■ 8GB for internet / porno / iTunez etc
    ■ 16 or 32 for gaming / music production / porno V.R. etc
    ■ SSD for O.S. (128 or 240 GB)

Install and using O&O ShutUp10 is the 1st step after the first login. It does not stop the automatic Security Updates process but disable alot of unsafe (and insane) defaults.

    P.S.
I don't know about tomorrow but It is clear that Win 10 will be uninstalled before July 29 or 28 or 27 ... you know... asap. :winker:

You can keep them both if Windows 7 is legit and if you go back (using the roll-back procedure) within a month. The Win10 activation (digital entitlement):

The "ProductKey" free software can show both: serial number and product key (old O.S. and the new one).

Don't forget that you will have to pay for it eventually. SaaS. It's not free.

And if you use cracks it will start deleting them.

And that all your photos and personal writings and documents are automatically uploaded to a database to be scanned, to check if you are breaking the law somehow. This can not be turned off.

    Good luck!

The day is starting bad. The way Win10 manage the video files is really annoying. My default video & audio app is Cowon JetAudio. It has a built-in files association manager, useful with WIn7 but useless with Win10. I don't know why, even if I associate every kind of multimedia file to jetaudio, Win10 bypass some setup and use its mediaplayer. The only way to avoid this weird behaviour is a file-by-file association. Think how much time have to spend a user to scroll the file extensions list (a loooong list) and set each one.

And I can say on a i7 4712MQ (which is 2.3GHz versus your 3.3GHz) with 16 gigs of RAM on a 512 GB SSD it works beautifully, boot in 7 seconds from power button to desktop and didn't even need to install any of the "ShutUp10" bullshit. Just ticked out some stuff during installation

Didn't pay a dime, upgraded from Win8.1 a week after 10 came out. It doesn't delete anything, no it doesn't delete your DAW, your plugins, your cracks. If it does, it's the antivirus which is there since Windows 7 (that Windows Security Essentials thing, also if you install antivirus yourself it gets disabled). Plus in most cases it's actually Chrome that scans for viruses in downloads and deletes whenever the thing you're downloading has malware. But you can still whitelist the file and un-quarantine it if you feel like playing risky with shady stuff from the internet.

Regarding "photos and personal writings and documents"... so what? iPhone does this already. Gmail does this already. Dropbox, too. And usually it just checks the md5 hash if it's been reported as copyright infringement by some company - like in Dropbox. They don't scan your file, they compare checksums.

Like... geez, chill out guys. I understand you're XP kiddos and you hate win10 but the shitload of anti-spy apps, posting butt pictures and raging on forums is just screwed up. Calm the heck down.

    *** Day 03 ***

Ok, a new test day acting as a stupid user :disco:. Here what I've found:

    ■ Bug:
    - Aero Peek canoot be disabled
    --- Related option is useless

    ■ GUI
    - Aero Glass is no more. Why?
    - Flat style stinks (tablet/smartphone oriented)
    - Three kind of UI on PC (tablet/smartphone oriented)
    - Metro UI used seldom (some "explorer" style windows only)
    - Some windows shown an old UI approach (it seems the Windows 2000/Vista core stay untouched)

    ■ ALT+TAB View
    - Small object shown smaller (or the wrong way)

    ■ SmartScreen
    - WTF is it? What is it for?

    ■ Icons stretched on task-bar
    - To show an app is minimized (... come on!)

    ■ Edge
    - WTF is it?
    - Bing search engine cannot be removed (but replaced)
    - To delete Bing search history you have to log-in to live.com
    - No option to size/delete its internet cache
    - No plug-ins support

If you want the best Windows version get the insider preview and put the update to long...

the Redstone is the best thing Microsoft ever created compared to the last official Build 10586 or whatever...

Last Build is 14371, installed it, Less CPU/Ram usage, light on computer resource... (PERSONAL EXPERIENCE)

the only downside is Counter-Strike GO, just launch it as Windows 7 i play video games, and CSGO was a pain the ass with Redstone...

on Audio, Software side, i can tell the fuckin* diffrance...

you will notice the difference yourself when you install it,

Good luck mate, i became kinda Experienced with all this shit going on so if you have any question feel free to PM, i'll be glad to help a friend in need mate ;)

I felt Win 10 loaded things noticeably faster but just kept having problems with it. I switched twice because Ableton Push 2 likes Win 10 better than 7. The first time I got the shits of it because it kept changing settings I modified. The second time it was using significantly more CPU than necessary. Like 5-10 percent with two VSTi on an i7 6700k. I decided I was tired of troubleshooting and went back to 7.

I wanted to like it. I didn't really care about the privacy stuff since my studio machine is offline 99 percent of the time. But it just causes problems where Win 7 doesn't. Fuck em.

You are used to windows 7. Many features have changed from 7 to 10. Maybe you do not need additional features, but an OS shoul have more features than it's previous versions. It's funny that there is not a single thing you liked about 10, means you are having problem in adapting.

I agree with you on that file associations thing, but you never thought why this feature is given. This feature is taken from android, where user has control of file associations, not the program he installed. Whenever new program associates with files, windows asks you to select between all the programs associated with that extension, so that no program associates with files without known by user. (I think you got it because my english is not that great).

There were many bugs, now some are left, sooner it will become rock solid like 7.

Uses more cpu and RAM. I have never activated Aero glass when I was on 7. You should optimize your pc.

Yeah, maybe. But it's your opinion. People like flat style.

For touch screen laptops. Choose whatever you like.

Slightly removing them, if you've seen it from first release.

Smart Screen filter is for blocking malicious websites. It's pretty good, but I keep it disabled. I use Comodo Internet Security and Malwarebytes.

Dont know what you're talking about. But my minimized app on taskbar looks like this, no problem here.

It's their new Web Browser. Faster than IE but few features. Extensions are coming in Redmond update. But I do not like it. Nobody forced you to use it. I find SRWare Iron a better choice.

Hope you'll tell us what you like about Windows 10.:mates:

8 is nothing. Fight is between 7 and 10. And right now 7 is winning. I am sure 10 will become much better than 7 in few years.

My head explodes when I see people arguing which Windows is better or threads about "should I upgrade????"

Install both people!! SSD's are cheap or if you are broke as a nigerian kid, make a fukcing second partition and install there the second OS.

Boot in any Windows you like after.

Test the damn thing for a month, and if you like it, make it primary in boot options. Case closed.

Why? If I can't find my way towards the OS the first 2-3 days then it's obvious it's not for me.
I don't need to taste poop for a month to say "Yep, that's poop! Better not eat it again!"

I'll be honest, I really wanted to keep Windows 10 (it was a bit faster and I liked the interface bla bla), but after one single day I uninstalled it. Maybe it's just me, I just wish "social features", "mobile versions" and other non sense stuff like that would be out of the way from a COMPUTER OPERATIVE SYSTEM.

    10 doesn't delete your cracks.
If you don't have your own protection Windows Defender will quarantine suspected files, especially keygens.
Same as Chrome does when it downloads a suspicious file.
I disabled Windows Defender permanently because I trust myself to not recklessly download crap from anywhere.
I run a scan maybe once a month for malware.

Run gpedit.msc, configure your PC however you like. Done.
The only thing difficult about this is if you have Home edition you have to install the Group Policy Editor.
    With Pro it's already there.

The only reason 10 calls MS like some homesick child is because it's a new Operating System and this is the fastest way for them to collect diagnostic data for their so called "nefarious" plans.
Bug fixes and vendor soft/hardware compatiblity.

    So evil.

Microsoft Edge is a touch capable browser for those with capacitive screens.
If you don't have a touch-screen and require a fully functional browser, there's really no reason to use Edge besides the smooth ass scrolling and cleaner layout.

  21. you know that the latest versions of ableton were crap especially on win 10 with epic 120% CPU spikes until 9.5.99999999 or some shit, and 9.6. i had that problem until those versions. 100% cpu with 1 note. isnt win 10 fault, what are you going back to win millenium? wtf
