    Hi Mates!

After a long 8 months break, due to my job and tight schedule, now I started writing a new song. I have been playing with it since a long time 2-3 weeks for atleast 1 hour a day or sometimes less, but due to one or other limitation i was not satisfied with the overall mix.

Finally, I got a lead sound which i think is the best for this song, Alone this lead sounds good, but when mixed the overall mix lacks something.

Due to a long break i am not able to recall the tips and tricks i used to apply on mixes even after hunting for the source files of my previous project.

Please refer the zipped folder, it contains the overall mix named '8 Months 126', and other stems.

Now here is what in my mind,
Is lead properly layered, if not then which component is missing?
How to improve the overall mix?
Should i stick with the lead or it should be changed, incase you have some different idea for the lead.

    Any other tips are welcomed.

Please help me and my mix.

    Download the zipped folder,

Hi, I gave it a listen and here are my thoughts, The soft attack of the lead synth does not complement the sound very well, It makes it sound a little after the beat. A stronger attack on the synth will help to define and place it in the mix better. Or mix the synth with a sound with a strong attack in with it, like a bell texture. I also notice a kind of pumping with the mix, this does not sound bad by itself but seems to be more noticeable when the lead is playing. Other than that it sounds pretty good.

Hope I've helped in some small way.

+1 what Burninstar said. After fixing the attack, I think the lead could do with a little more variation, probably in the last bar of the 8bar loop. Maybe do some octave shifts with the notes already there. In the second 8 bar loop you could layer a second instance of the main synth playing a fifth or an octave higher than the main part for extra impact. Also play with leaving out some notes in the synth line. Since its playing full blast the whole time, I think it get's repetitive rather quickly.

Also, I'm not sure wether leaving the kick on the 1st 1/4 of the second 8bar loop helps. I feel that it breaks the rhythm for a second. I know that this can work really well sometimes, but in this case I feel that the variation in drums should happen at the end of the first 8b loop.

Mixing-wise, I think you did a good job but the extreme width of the synth buries the drums a little in my opinion. Maybe pull back volume and reverb on the synth and bring up the hats and claps a tiny bit.

Hope this helps, would be interested in hearing what you can come up with!
