i've always been an artist since i was little. started with drawing & painting. went into photography, film, and music.

i think anyone that creates new content using their imagination & available tools, is an artist.

Artist is a word which not everyone can "wear". Chaplin was an Artist so... how could I think the same about me? No. I'm one who likes to have fun.

    Artist=No.
    Creative+yes
Always have been. Whether it was cutting my mates hair, making my own clothes, Taking photographs, painting pictures, and now making music. Whether any of it can be called art is a different matter though.

I mean I know I am an artist. However, that's not the only identity I have and unless it's a reason to bring that up. It's not something I use as an introduction and usually if someone introduces themselves as an artist right off the bat I tend to just write them off =P

Hm, I wouldn't say I'm an artist but I say it alot when people ask me, if I'm a genius or just crazy.

I wish one of the choices on the survey was "I guess I am an artist but I'm not a dick about it."

When I record new material, I feel that I'm an artist. When I play with my gear (which is most of the time) I feel like a kid with his toys. But then again I know that both The Art of Fugue and 4.33' are considered works of art.

I think I'm a technician in the first place,
I will always make beats when I have the time, but in practice mixing is taking all my time
I don't really care because there are much more talented producers around me

So Foaki really is back lol. This oughta be interesting. Anyways to answer the question, I think I would consider myself an artist, though I don't have the skills that some others do. What I lack in skill, however, I make up in creativity and talent.

the pool should only have "yes", on the other hand, the "main" difference should be in level of professionality...
In human nature is to be an artist, and nature itself is an artist to... :) I know that I went to far in philosophy, but that's the way it is with Art... Always on the edge of what we can feel and comprehend.

In the nineteenth century, the music of Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven were considered the classics of music, much like the classics of literature and art, and their music formed the core of classical repertoire.

Inspired by a performance of Handel's Messiah, Haydn burst into tears and proclaimed of Handel, “He is the master of us all.” This inspiration led to the composition of his The Creation.

Mozart also composed a number of string quartets, although not nearly as prolifically as Haydn did. In fact, Mozart emulated Haydn's compositional prowess in the genre in his six Haydn Quartets, although he did so in his own musical language and style.

Beethoven absorbed the styles of Haydn and Mozart, yet progressively throughout his life, he led a revolution of his own that would change the sound of music forever.

Your speech is similar to what they did; furthermore all of them had at least a good archetype.

Let me look into my book of skills:
13 musical instruments under my belt (still improving in all of them, because there is no such thing as "Completing an instrument")
    Genreless? Yeah I'd say so.
1,400 song back catalog sounds quite impressive. Lol
Fuck pop music. The next person who tells me that Pitbull is a musical genius or that Beyonce is a musical inspiration, is gonna get knocked out & thrown in a pond full of hungry piranhas.
I don't have a lot of followers. In fact, nobody really gives a shit about my music. That don't stop me, tho.
I've been playing with gear for about 10 years. Unlike a prior commenter with 20. Does that make me jealous? No. It inspires me to keep going.
Do I care what people think of me? Nope. I just put my music in people's faces & if they don't like it, well they can go get killed by a bunch of killer hungry fat girls with toothed vaginas for all I care. Lmao
Am I passionate about my music? Yes. Each song I make is one of my children. Yeah 1,400 children is pretty insane. No, these testicles never get tired.
I never had a drug addiction. But I have had the kidney stones before from drinking 8 bottles of muscle milk® per day. I'm only 23 years old, so that's pretty messed up.
I can't even keep up with my own creativity. I have extreme insomnia as a result of my overproductive creativity.
Do I want to be better? Yes.
    Ego? No way.
Should Kanye west be castrated with a butter knife without anesthesia? Yes, yes, so much yes.
    Am I rich? No.
Did I marry my guitar? I may as well. It's gotten me thru depression 5 times. I tried to kill myself in April of 2013 when I nearly lost my house. I hung a guitar cable in my closet as a noose & nearly hung myself with it. I had it around my neck when I started to cry & took it off, stepped down & decided to plug in my guitar & write a few songs instead. Music kept me going & helped me make peace with the present & put the past away when no person was there to care about me or my values. I wrote a song called "Shooting Star" after I took the cable off my neck. It has lyrics, but my singing hasn't improved enough to perform them. But the song is about finding the good things when you feel like ending it all, because what time you leave this world is simply not your decision to make. Shooting Stars resemble the things & places & faces that make you feel at peace with the world. I look in the mirror & look back & think "Holy shit, I am the luckiest mutherfucker I know now". Whenever I want a billion dollars, I look in the mirror & feel my heartbeat & tell myself that that is worth more than any money could ever buy.

I'd say I consider myself an artist. Yeah I've been called a "Fag" and been accused of "Having ovaries" because my music isn't aggressive nazi music. I never gave a shit. In fact, I consider it insecurity on their part because a lot of girls dig it when I play my guitar & sing a song. Girls are no problem for me. They love it. This tells who the real fag is - & it's the douchebag with his pants around his ankles & a snapback hat who thinks homosexuality & compassion are inseparable traits of which you can't have one without the other. But then again, it's not like I care anyway.

No, I'm a musician. Music is art but I don't view my music as art.

I have always been "into" artistic things.. ever since I got my first piece of vinyl silliness, known as The Partridge Family something or other, then at age 9 some woman played Bennie and the Jets in 4th grade "art" class, which , corny as it sounds, at that time, was a revelation for me. Since then I have been on an inexorable musical path,
not in any formal sense, just a big follower of pop.

Began buying instruments to learn how to play, getting lessons, buying cassette tape 4 tracks, jamming with friends in Uni, studying sciences and also cinematography and photography, a dash of theater...

Then I was at a party one time, and a Russian woman, who was some sort of artist herself, spoke with me, looked me up and down and declared me an artist. It was flattering and chilling at the same time, as I had always thought it would be pretentious to call myself that, but I accepted what she said, and have continued to struggle considering myself in that light.

In any case my musical adventures have only accelerated since discovering daws and vsts. Well it snowballed one day while naughtily searching an "enhanced demo" of a vst I wanted.. and what did my search engine show before my eyes? :wow:
None other than the creative musical wonderland and smorgasbord we call AudioZ !

Now I am among a plethora of artists , technicians, and encyclopedic geniuses ( and some not so genius ).

I would still rather reserve the term "Artist" for people like Prince who display multifaceted and unquestionable genius,
but I will accept that the term applies to many of the good people here as well... maybe even myself

and who said you have to be a "genius" anyway... so why not... @( . ) ( . ) have been considered great art subjects
for centuries, and now we have a pair that is "and" artist in it / him- self.. :hahaha:

An artist is a rather vague term, which in my opinion means "anyone who creates something not for an explicit utilitarian purpose, but to project one's thoughts and emotions onto some medium, for the self and others to appreciate, understand, or relate to". Anybody who pours their heart into their work in a way that transcends its utility and becomes a means of expression, is an artist.

This is rather broad, so to raise the barrier of entry, I consider the difference between the sentimental, or creative, value and the utilitarian value of a piece of work. For example, someone who produces a cookie-cutter song in order to pander to popular tastes and make money, is less of an artist than someone who strives to inject a unique "signature" into their music through honesty, risk-taking, and hard work. Skill also comes into the equation, but this is more of a byproduct of hard work and experimentation. Art doesn't have to be complex to be skillful. Ultimately, it is its effectiveness in expressing the artist's emotion in his/her own unique way that gives it intrinsic value. It can even resemble other art or be of a particular genre/style. The best art stands out from the crowd notwithstanding.

So am I an artist? Yes. Am I an acclaimed artist? No. Am I skilled? Perhaps. I am able to play 4 instruments and have a background in singing, in addition to producing electronic music. Does my art have its own signature? Yes, in my opinion. Is it good? That is subjective. I am always striving to express my emotions better, and feel like I am still far away from where I'd like to be.
