Why I Like Requintos

  1. I drove an hour there and back today to the Spanish Consulate in Bern, Switzerland to meet with a secretary who works there who had bought a requinto (a mini guitar tuned up a 5th due to its shortened scale length and made in the guitar capital of the world, the city of Paracho in Michoacan, Mexico) who had a 35 year old requinto that she had bought on vacation around 1980 that I had seen for sale on a website for 190 CHF. I didn't buy it because it wasn't in great shape, but, I wasted precious hours of my life that I can never get back just because of this video which you are about to see. The man to the left, luthier, player and singing, Ramón Gutiérrez Hernández, plays the requinto jarocho, a mini guitar, carved out of one solid piece of wood.

Every good thing that there ever was, is and forever shall be is encompassed in this short performance captured within the three minute five second time frame of this video. At about 1:59 the two players simultaneously become unconsious and fused together, nothing exists and the universe recreates itself in an unending blossoming of flower.
