I'm looking for somebody that can help me recreate a similar sound to this one (around 1:04)
Astralasia, Every mother's sun (or son?)
It's that bass that plays two notes in quick succession (every 2 bars I guess?)

I'm just interested in someone who can help me creating this from scratch, I'm not looking for a preset or anything, because I kinda want to learn synthesis. This is a really easy sound I guess. I know some stuff, like I know for sure there's a pitch bend or some automation going on in the second note (correct me if I'm wrong).

But, if I have to create this from scratch I'm at a loss. Massive should do the trick right? I think any synth will do here though

Thanks, hope you can teach me a thing or two

Make a Sinebass or use a soft 808, pitch that slightly with an automation or envelope down, and than add Distortion... very simple! ;)

    Single sine wave oscillator.
Add some pitch envelope (decay/release) so that the note starts higher and then falls down (1 or 2 semi-tones).
    Add distortion.
Add a lowpass filter after the distortion. Adjust cutoff (and steepness, resonance, etc) to taste. Even add a highpass if the bass is too overwhelming.

Thanks guys, way easier than I thought.
Honestly I had no idea it was a sine wave; because of the distortion I tried to recreate it using a saw/square

    Thanks

Distorted sine is sort of square, so you weren't totally off. I'm pretty sure you can use square too, but with sine you can dial in the distortion amount, distortion type, multiband distortion, etc to shape the sound to your desire. Square us usually just square. :)

I'm up again for another "I'm so noob I can't figure out what kind of sound is this" (me and another user tried to figure it out in tag with no real success lol). So basically (this is Sowuz by Gagarin for anyone wondering) here's the thing: https://instaud.io/rnK

I'm not talking about the drone in the back, but the chimes/bells things. What I want to understand (and learn!) is how to achieve the sweeping effect. I tried playing around with the MIDI, but there's clearly some kind of modulation going on, and I can't quite understand what's happening, so I left out the notes option. It's probably only one note getting triggered from the keyboard. An LFO that resets everytime the sequence gets played again and modulates the tune? An envelope that modulates a lowpass filter that opens quickly? I tried all of these and the results were far from that simple thing.

Bear with me because when I recognize an interesting sound, I just want to understand how to achieve that particular effect. And most of the times, it's these easy sounds... Sorry, hope I was clear.

Try high arps (arpeggios) with a sine wave (or FM), with some amp attack and some amp release turned up.
