Well, after pondering buying, and looking at dozens of desks, I decided none were suitable for what I wanted to put on it.. or.. were FAR too expensive.

So.. after pondering another while I decided to build my own.

1 sheet of 3/4' Oak, 1 sheet of 1/2' Oak , 1 can stain, 1 can gloss, about 30 brackets, Drill, Holesaw, ripsaw, tablesaw, level, tape and a pencil.

Took a bit over a week, including drying time in between stains, glossing. and roughly 180$

Its biiiig...5x3 ft on top and a 12' shelf. 30' tall.

Im SOOOOO very happy with it. Solid.

    "LAST FRIDAY NIGHT!"

Ghetto stand for the APC btw :bleh:

Looks great, its clear you took the time to gauge just how big you needed it to be for your needs.

My "workstation" is some kinda living-room unit (bout 3ft wide) with my laptop on it. No room for my audio interface (cable length and convenience permitting) so I got a drawer from another unit and now its upside down with the laptop on top and the interface below. So cheap and nasty but works just fine for me.

Yeah, nice spot on the video on the screen Paus... wasn't intentional.. lol..

and yeah, the APC, I toyed with some permanent ideas for angling it.. but in the end a rolled up towel, believe it or not, was just a solid way to do it..doesnt move at all, and angled perfectly for my liking.. and of course, I can always move stuff around if I want to after some time in this config.

Best desk by far.. I've ever used \ owned.

The back is actually bracketed to a 2x4 that's screwed to the wall for more stability.

    Mmmm.. pink starfish..

    nice diy !

just a note though, you really should toe those monitor speakers in if they are meant to be nearfields, otherwise you are sitting just about perfectly in the crosstalk zone. :D

toe them in? Not sure what you mean.

They are Behringer truth b2031a monitors, is there something wrong with how they are positioned... other than one being in the corner, which I had no choice over. :dunno:

Dunno what "toe them in" is but they should be angled so that if you imagine a line coming from the tweeters straight out (but at an angle)... The two lines should meet each other where your head is.

Thanks for that explanation.. will give it a go, see how much difference it makes in my environment.

I also plan to add some room \wall treatment at some point.

    Cheers!

Nice work on the desk...looks really good!!

'Toe in' is just a term for angling them in (like the toe in on your car).

But yeah, you will notice a significant difference if you set them up like the pic in the post by Paus.

a pretty desk indeed...you should have posted the WIP maybe some could take lessons of how to do it (looking at myself who has surreal problems with the glue ;)
Make music is an art but foremost an initiation to DIY...just thinking about assembling a hackintosh, a desk, room treatment to name few essentials!

Actually, i did make a series of videos showing each step, but piecing them all together in Sony Vegas was more trouble than it was worth.

Maybe when I have more time I'll make a full video..

Thanks Rolma.. Checked my finished, new, Pumped up kicks thread when you get a minute would ya ! :mates:

Given the nature of your projects you might end up with a mixing table !
Yeah the video could be not just useful, also very funny to watch
