I use sommer and mogami cables.
The main issue with cables is resistivity and impedance and there is a difference between cheap cables and not-so-cheap cables, but it's a slippery slope to vodoo and esotericism. My rule of thumb: you will hear a difference between a ,5 €/m and a 5 €/m cable. One single cable will make no difference but if you switch all the cables in the signal chain, it will make a difference. But above that price range? Church of vodoo, it is.

Vovox Cables are the Best i´ve ever heared. I A/B´d komplete recording and mixing inviorements with normal and vovox cables and the difference was shocking. Never believed that cables can make such a HUGE difference. I was just like fraifik about that Voodoo thing before that. It is absolutely correct that you at best change your whole Signalchain. Or just the Recording chain

This will sound like I've copied and pasted fraifikmushi's post and edited a bit, and I have! Well, parts of it. Sorry man, I was lazy to write the obvious one more time! :hahaha:

I use Klotz and Mogami cables.
The main issue with cables is resistivity and impedance and there is a difference between cheap cables and not-so-cheap cables [purity of copper used is important=more expensive]. However, the difference between not-so-cheap cables and expensive cables is practically negligible. This is similar to how buying audio equipment and all things actually works. You can throw tons of money on something to get only a marginally better thing, but you can get a really great thing for a bit more dosh than what is considered cheap. So my rule of thumb is: avoid cheap and avoid expensive, too. All the way from veg and fruits I buy, to audio interfaces, monitors etc.

This philosophy served me really well so far, and I hope it'll continue to serve me well in the future.

    Cheers! :headbang:

build my own: start with quality cable, I use Switchcraft or Neutrik connectors, and make a shiny solder connection. If you have as many as I do you save enough money to buy something you are more likely to hear.

I use Proel Cables. They're affordable and I keep them in mint condition. I also solder my own for specific needs, in which case, I use Neutrik plugs. I also have a couple of very sturdy Planet Waves cables.

  16. Hey phloopy, those seem like they would do the trick. They are well shielded and should keep any electrical and radio interference at bay. I myself have been using Vovox for the past few years because I noticed a good bit of difference in sound quality between the Rock Cables, Contrik and Planet Wave cable that are offered around where I live here in Basel. I bought one used Kiwi Cable from Blue (those microphone guys) from someone online because the brand was supposed to be pretty good, but I was thoroughly disappointed with the sound and the stiff quality of that cable. I think the Vovox are very fine cables and I'm not sorry to have spent the money on them. They could literally last forever for me as I don't abuse them while on the road as I am not touring, and my room is not a public facility where things get plugged and unplugged a zillion times a year. Nor will they hopefully ever be stolen and need to be replaced. I use the shortest runs possible so extra length is not wasted. Yes, for me Vovox has been and should continue to be a worthwhile investment in my room.

Mogami for monitors, Canare for patch gear (slightly cheaper). LyxPro from Amazon for longer runs like mic cables.

I've been experimenting with LyxPro to see whether Mogami and Canare sprinkle fairy dust in their cables or if its just quad shielding and neutrik connectors that makes the difference, and so far seems to be the latter.
Really happy with them, saved about 50$ on a 50 foot cable for my vocal booth by going with LyxPro instead of Mogami.

I wont get into different brand comparisons, my argument is about generic store brand cables vs premium cables, and the price difference is worth it.

i was just assuming that professional audio cables have to follow some standards which makes them all pretty similar, or not?

likely that swiss cables are better, of course swiss work must costs more then chinese or selfmade

Mogami W2549 cable w/ neutrik connectors - all day - hand built (not by me)

Vintage King's own brand of cables are really good too.

I use Mogami snakes db25 to XLR (not hand built) straight from Mogami, for their pure "grade-A" construction quality.

edit : Canare makes a good cable too.

Check out the REDCO site to have them build any cables for you, according to your specs.
