I think, and sadly that dance music, and hip hop on the beat making aspect can be reinvented through trends. Like the dub step wobble synths, and hi hat triplets for example. Something so simple to do literally was an innovation to edm and hip hop. Only down side is that people will abuse and overuse making it mundane and boring in short time, and turning off people invested in innovative and creative music.

I may be mistaken, but the 2nd track sounds like a blueprint for My Bloody Valentine, and the 1st track spawned an entirely different genre.

If we look at developmental psychology, copying is quite simply just what humans do: They learn by watching and imitating others – you could really call it primal.

If we look at the artistic/creative process, the case is obviously not that clear-cut as I said it to be earlier,

but since you called out some names, and since Kraftwerk(Ger) seemms to be be of interest we can break it down with a little bit of help with google and wikipedia.

The invention of the theremin was a Soviet laboratory accident,
technically Eminent 310 was the first polyphonic syntesizer.(I don't know why hammond does not count but anyways)
Maybe not accepted by most people, because it didn't had Moog his invention of ADSR. But that was at a point where "electronic instruments" beeing instrument emulations where already (mis-)used as whole new sound creations

Pablo Picasso said: "The poor artist copy, the genius steals".

Copying is a great way to learn techniques, when will be copied many, we will finally have our arsenal of creation tools, which will no longer be a mere "play", but apply the acquired knowledge, definitely improved, with the inevitable personal stamp.
This is what I think about "stealing" in the positive sense of the term: take the idea of another and develop into unexpected directions. But doing it as I described above takes a long, long time and an hard, hard effort.
And most of people don't have them both.

As Tony said, first you got to make the money, then you buy the synths.

You know what else is kinda funny? People lurking around in forums all day complaining how synth sounds sound "flat" instead of actually making some dope music with their "analog" synths.

I need to think, listen and explore before I get an urge to make music. I don't know about you, but thinking about flat synths and spiky synths kinda gets me excited :)

Is the kind of sound important? Does it have any effect on what we perceive? Should we just accept flat sounds and make music? You pose an interesting question :):invision:

Would our flat synths sound more alive if we tuned them to A = 432?
