I've been a Kontakt user since v2.0 and I've never been completely enamored with the database, but like most users I was quite pissed when it was severely scaled down with v5.0 in order to conform to the Maschine database format. Now I find it nearly useless, and my work and my lib collection now are such that I need a good database more than ever. Why does the best sample program in the industry have the worst management function? Does ANYONE know of a utility or hack that can provide some usability to this beast? Specifically:
    - allow user-definable tags - the set they provide is laughable
    - mass tagging: let me quickly tag all my clarinet insts as clar, then a subset as Bb clars, then a subset as staccato, etc

When I'm arranging and I have a need, I want to be able to search for "flute, alto, fluttertongue" or "sax, bari, rip" or "loop, pans, 130 bpm" and pull up anything that qualifies. Is that asking too much? I know I'm tilting at an old windmill, but I remain appalled at this shortcoming in a platform I otherwise really like, and I'm hoping someone has a solution.

BTW, Chicken Systems Kontakt Assistant is way out of date, if it ever worked.

Not aware of any mass tagging item ASFAIK but I could well be wrong.

You have to do it yourself I think. It is a long drawn out process but definitely worth doing as optimizing your databaase enhances your workflow in many ways.

You basically need to assasign meta data which you can do in a variety of ways. NI libraries and some others are pre tagged but you can assign meta data to your third party libraries pretty easily.

like plomerus said or maschine itself but as stated takes a lot of time  The solution is to basically try not to simply just add a library & that's that. Optimise as you add a library and tag if required. Boring job but will save u a lot of time in the long run once you get a system going

It seems I'm condemned to spend my life in tagging purgatory. Thanks for the suggestions anyway.
