I run a 64 bit Windows 10 machine and use Ableton 9, Reason 8 and Sonar Platinum as my DAWs, though Sonar not so much.

I have been wanting a more hands on feel to connect with my DAW, especially when mixing and so on. I have been looking at the Tascam FW 1884 but it seems aged and no idea if it works with Windows 10 or current DAWs? Does anybody have any idea on this?

Also, what other options are available at the cheaper end of the market? What about the DigiDesign Command 8 or is that Pro Tools only?

Any advice or suggestions? I ideally want something to just plug in and work without needing to map a ton of things manually.

If you really want to go the inexpensive road, I'd suggest you get this:

It is a small controller designed for Ableton Live, but it controls all the DAWs you list as well if I'm not mistaken. It costs around $300. The good thing about it is that the faders are actually slide up/down touch sensors. So no need for expensive motorized faders and it will recall your settings and automation moves. I would've bought one myself but it's not Pro Tools compatible. Actually, it made me start a search that ended in my buying a Allen & Heath Qu-16 board. Don't asked how I went from inexpensive to I'm-deep-in debt :dunno:. It's a long story.

    Good luck on your search.

nektar panorama p1 would be my choice as i own a midi keyboard from their line-up the impact 61lx and it's fully integrated itself with studio one 3 and if this control surface is anything close to that quality...

I used to own the Nektar Impakt LX88 and liked it, but was too big. I do now own a Korg Kontrol 49, which has a fader and one knob for 8 tracks, but I'm looking for something more "real mixer-like".

Yeah, I know. I do like the Panorama P1 and how it can control plugins etc, but not really a hands on mixer type of controller in the same way as things like the Tascam FW 1884, M-Audio Project Mix, DigiDesign Command 8 etc tec.
