Just thought I would add some info from elsewhere about Prince's sound, specifically drums.

He's a famous user of Linn drums / LM-1

But to get his sound some of the Linn samples were detuned (I find 600 cents best - (1/2 tone?)) compressed and then put through a ****guitar flanger pedal***. Apparently that's a big part of Minneapolis Sound.

For instance, detuning the rimshot (600 cents or more), compress and flange immediately gives a signature Prince sound that I especially always loved.

One can very quickly start approaching Erotic City and Let's Pretend We're Married like this.

Very simple, very effective.
