Easy. Life isn't alive, and can't enact it's will, or get anyone to move in anyway. Thus only people, can impose their will on others, and ultimately on themselves. In other words, Life, or being alive does nothing to you. If a person lied in bed all day everyday for the whole of their lives nothing good or bad would happen to them, give or take a few various extreme circumstances. In fact, it's not until a person chooses to move or not move in a certain way that things begin to happen.

Besides your question implies, that nature somehow owes us each the most awesome life ever. But that only entity that's in charge of getting what you want or really need out of life is you.

Me personally - I perceive that life is just a string of the choices we make. Whether they are right or wrong (and the definitions of these deserve their own thread/forum) most often becomes clear afterwards. In such manner we are making alot of "blind" choices, often trying to persuade ourselfs we are making the "right" choice, relying on our own experience and beliefs. This is especially true in our lifetime, where changes comes faster than ever and the "chance" factor when making decisions and the shier amount of them is higher than ever. There are rare extreme cases where we dont have the choice of making our own decision but 99.9% all that happens to us is somehow connected to a choice WE made in our past.

    On a slightly different note:
We are falling into a technology trap in more than one ways - let alone the fact that most us living in the dream called "western civilization" are completely helpless and incapable of surviving outside of their cubicles, the amount of information we have to deal on daily basis is that much overwhelming that more and more ppl are succumbing to stress. My honest opinion is that technology surpasses our own emotional and self-aware levels by alot. In short - we are not ready for the things technology allow us to do because of our current way of thinking and perceiving life.

Life screws you because it exposes you to entropy, but your choices can make you more happy.

Through no fault of my own, my music career has been an utter disaster. I've devoted 40 years to it and it has been beyond my control and I am depressed, anxious and had 4 nervous breakdowns over the last 17 years. I don't expect sympathy, but feel free to send cash or subscribe to my newsletter. Details are in my info in my profile. Just the facts. The cold hard facts.

There's one and only one thing that can make you feel good and it's just money, no matter how you acquire it from musicianship or other vocations.:bleh:

No need to become gloomy. We can never control the growing world around us with or without our choices. I said control, because what torments us most is the lack of control of events. What I suggest is forgetting the control deeds and not thinking so much.

It's wrong. I can confidently say that just less than 10% of our lives is on our hands. The conditions imposed on us in every moment are pretty potent that your choices are usually being interred beneath them. Even in selections you're usually coerced, that means the freedom of choices is a sheer fantasy.

But what if we changed the MIDI output from channel 1 to channel 2? (Omni is too much for humans, I'm afraid...)

If you take a moment to consider the minuscule odds of you even being conceived by your parents, somewhere in the ballpark of 1 in 400 Trillion, it is safe to say we are all pretty much at the mercy of fate. That and any one of us could die tomorrow in a car accident, come down with cancer, or the sun could decide to sneeze and eradicate all life on earth.

That being said, some people do adapt better to the shit life throws at them than others, and some people that seem to have everything are utterly miserable with their lives. Are these traits a choice though or merely the result of fates meticulous job of programming their personality through preordained events?

this one's easy... no matter how disconnected you think you are from a given circumstance.. whether positive or negative... we create our situation.
If we don't want to fight for a better situation.. we have ourselves to blame.

I like this kind of questions, makes me wonder again
Well in my humble opinion and experience, till now, the all life it self, including me and you, from the begin of this concept lol ,it is a mystery that we have to live with it in.It is a huge complicated situation and i cannot give a quiet true answer and certainly i will stay with the question.

The question must be translated to: (1) Am I screwed by others or (2) do I scew myself.
    (1) To a certain degree we are screwed by others, e.g. politics, authorities. A single person isn't able to change that.
But if I'm willing to relinquish getting sympathy or being everybodies firend ... I will be able to minimize the negative impact other people have on me.
    (2) To not screw myself I need to objectively inspect what I'm able to accomplish. I need to realize, what are my abilities, what I can learn and what I can't, because it's simply not given to me. This leads to goals I am able to actually reach.
Ok, it's not easy to accept, I'm not the best soccer player/drummer/scientist/...(you name it) in the world, but you need to get ok with it and get ok with your own weaknesses, or you'll struggle the rest of your life ...

This process is called "reaching adulthood" (not only the age you're allowed to drink beer and see porn videos :)).

But some of us don't grow up their whole life. Believing they are more, then they really are. This way they screw themselves claiming they are screwed by life.
