yeah thanks Zenarcist! kind of funny too, the story concerning how he made his sound - you know cause of the shitty amp he got in joy div days - he had to play percussivly to have a chance to be heard - and at least, created one of the most recognizable bass playing of the eighties ;)

 

Peter Hook's a cool dude - but this is my sort of "Why doesn't this happen to me?"

Back in happier times when they weren't communicating exclusively through lawyers.

Hooky's a really decent chap [well he always has been with me and I can only speak as I find, the other 3 would undoubtedly disagree these days though]. My cousin worked for JD/NO back in the late 70's/early 80's and when he passed away a couple of years back, he said some really nice things about him.

I've been a massive fan since the late 70's/early 80's when my aunt told me my cousin wasn't at home because he was away working in Europe 'for a band'. Seen NO dozens of times in all kinds of places and have quite a nice collection of memorabilia including stuff that's probably worth lots of cash, but I couldn't sell it or share it openly without probably getting in legal trouble anyway. NO really have been a soundtrack to my life though, through both the good and the not so good times.

The thing I miss most though is sitting in my cousin's garden with a beer and listening to him telling stories about back then. Like sometimes the only way to reboot their Emulator 2 when it crashed was to hit its metal legs with an hammer. The kick drum/bass line on Blue Monday being so powerful that it was moving the PA cabinets and the road crew had to physically hold onto the back of the speakers to stop them falling on the audience below. And the time he was tear gassed on stage.

That band have been through so much stuff together that I find it really sad that they are no longer friends.

36 years ago today JD played their last ever gig.
