#1's the worst. Just flubs the kick and sort of nasty sounding.
    #2 Neutral
    #3 Tightest and most controlled
    #4 Clearest and most "breathing"

3 and 4 more natural, don't break transients, more clear, soft and warm. But the 4 is the winner for me. Thank you!

Nice test indeed, 4 is the winner for me. I think first sample is the Bomb Factory, 2 is Waves, 3 is Slate VMR and last is UAD, but of course it's a blind test, so I'm not sure :)

    #1 Sounds crushed.
#2 The compression is evident but not overwhelming.
#3 Is a bit warm, hardware 1176s are known for clarity and brightness...
#4 Gets my vote for possessing the characteristics of the original hardware.

Ok, people. It seems there's a clear tendency on the favourite 1176 emulation. To give people who need it a better chance at assessing the audio files, here you are with a link to download the files. They are stereo WAV @ 48 kbps/ 24 bits. We'll give it some time for those of you who'd like a more in-depth analysis and tomorrow I'll lift the curtain.

Sorry people, it's the first time I use Mega, and I don't know I encrypted this thing. Here's the decryption key:

3 and 4 are my favorites, as they sound most natural. 1 is a no-go, and 2 has that infamous pumping that's not to my taste...

Can I use 2 for transients together with 1 for artificial thickness?
Or am I supposed to like 4 most, since everyone seems to do?
(No 1176 or hardware clone here to compare, btw.)
