Yesterday I've found a Plugin Alliance email about a survey. Look at the picture (question no.11).

Any idea why were they asking about other companies? Are they planning something big? :dunno:

    Kiss, kill, marry?

Most of those companies seem to be in some sort of a niche, like surgical tools like fabfilter or sonnox who couldnt give a crap about analog modelling, or Eventide with all the retro fx, UAD and hardware DSP, Slate probably because of the subscription model, iZotopes all in one suite plugins or restoration tools, McDSP is dominating the green plugins category (jk I actually love their stuff).

Maybe PA is looking to gather info on which new developer to bring on board who can fill the undermentioned niches lacking in their bundle.

Yeah is a standard question that i've seen in quite a few surveys.
I think we can all safely "live" without any of the listed products
It's not like if NI go under 100,000 around the world suddenly fall ill & that

Basically it just gives them info on which products are being used percentage wise/sector of the market and all that.
Also gives them an indicator of how highly users they rate them or somehow deem their plugins a necessity for the evolution of the human race and all that drama.
That way they can then maybe compare business models & practices and sum up similarities, differences and adapt to suit etc.
Also gives them an indication of who is good to partner with if there a possibility or forming some kind of ALLIANCE

Yeah this is most likely to see who else their customers gravitate towards. Know their competition and see what they're doing that they could improve on themselves.

I made a "desert island" list of plugins for myself to see which 3rd party plugins I really needed. I was really able to narrow down to just 2 or 3 plugins for each category (EQ, compression, saturation, delay, reverb, amp sims, drums, etc). It's pretty hard, but interesting to see what the bare essentials are for yourself.

  6. If you are in marketing...you gotta feel it, hence surveys. Market research is an important tool for selling most anything by companies that have coin to burn for this kind of tool. Survey groups inform movie companies which endings audiences react to more favorably and survey groups for instance gathered by watch companies poll individuals and groups about the feasibility of new watch designs. Lots of information is gathered this way. Even those annoying phone calls asking questions gather information on what they hope to be new trends and give new ideas to ad companies on how to get the attention of consumers to throw money in the direction of their clients goes in this direction. That, and everything Lean just said, especially everything that Lean just said. I never really like any advertising folk because they dehumanize individuals in order to put them into neat conforming groups, see humans merely as consumers and will do most anything to sell them their junk. Yuk.

    @ArticStorm
FabFilter (and iZotope and NI) does not needs any ally (..their customers are the best marketing resources). They are selling and will continue to sell because their stuff are good and reliable. Maybe Sonnox, Eventide and McDSP have needs to boost what they sell (McDSP is offering Classic Pack HD & Native 50% off).

Also knowing what the Plugin Alliance customers use the most could be a way to understand what selling areas have to be developed more.

but you can still ask, thats why they have them included, ou have obviously never thought about how these surveys work, often they want to get an idea, how to improve marketing, so they ask which companies they like, from that point they can analyse them and get better.
you often dont ask direct, from which company you bought something, so they made more unclear with that question, but it still implies that you use or own products from the listed ones, they they can analyse it and improve themselves, even NI, Ableton etc had this in their surveys.

You can take the survey here:
    http://us3.campaign-archive2.com/?u=5862a93c9388c4760d451e490&id=d583f562da&e=bd283027b1

It gives a clear idea about their marketing which is about the same most of these surveys use. Also you will get a coupon code, very generous. It`s 0516pausersurvey by the way.........

I do not believe any of the manufacturers will be added to their product range but I see their need for expansion. Their customer service is OK, so is the Brainworks and Lindel stuff I got from them.
