first thing i do is get my mic, throw it in the dryer, put my recorder on my dryer, throw in some random metal stuff and sometimes a few plastic pieces (make sure they sound different), turn the dryer on, record, cut some loops, filter the shit out of everything, send it to a few friends, get yelled at and called a complete moron and the question 'what the fuck are you doing??' then i discard everything and turn on my synths and make some beats

There is no best software, in the end all come to point, how good you know manipulate with it and in that process learn what works and what not. If you think you will have better results simply because you use "better" software, that's a big mistake. Second, try to use build in vst effects as much as possible, they are good enough and if you will really learn how to manipulate with them, you will most probably in 97% ended with way better results than those, that use all kind of popular vst's. The key is to put your energy to squeeze all potencial from particular vst and find all posssible ways you can manipolate with(the way how you connect it in chain, the way how you create, improove, extend sounds and so on) Ok, this is already more advanced stuff, but still is reminder to you, so you will not end search for better vst all the time(like most people hapend here at some stage), rather to improve yourself with puting your energy in your creativity to manipulate with them in unique ways and in the ways they can show best potential. Also before you start any project, new song, try to learn as much as possible about tools you will use, otherwise your creative process will be interrupted too much.
